"You know," I started, looking over at Shino, "We have something in common." I dried the dishes and was looking for their proper homes.

Shino took the bowl and put it away for me. "Our total adoration for Kai?" he asked with a smile.

I chuckled, glancing over at Kai, who had fallen asleep at the table. "Make that two things, then." I smiled up at Shino. "Our father walked out on us, too. So, I understand how you feel."

"It's nice to have someone that really understands rather than those that pretend they do," Shino admitted with a meek smile.

I smiled. "But, I think your mom has every right to be so overprotective, so please don't judge her because of that," I told him. "She wants what is best for you, and I'm sure it hurts her to see what happens to you. And, because she can't comfort you in the normal way most parents would, she has to figure out some other way."

He looked over at me, a look of surprise lit his face. "I don't think poorly of her because of that," he assured me.

"I know, but I just don't want you to end up resenting her or something. Don't do what I did," I told him.

"What do you mean?" he asked, his brows furrowing.

"Our mother was very overprotective. She'd never let us leave the house by ourselves. I never got anything I wanted. Now, I see I acted like a brat, but at the time, I didn't see it that way, and I ended up resenting her, and then she died. I regretted my actions, but I can never change it now. So, I want you and your mother to be able to get closer and closer."

"We will. She just likes to cool off on her own," Shino explained. "You don't need to worry."

I nodded and turned back to Kai, picking him up gently and walked into the bedroom. Shino opened the door for me. Placing Kai gently on the bed, I tucked him in, kissing his forehead.

I turned back to Shino. "You should probably get some sleep, too. You know, to try and heal that body of yours the best that you can."

He nodded. "That's a good idea. I'll see you tomorrow," he smiled before disappearing into his room.
