I put on my school uniform before helping Kai with his own. School was starting today, and I wasn't about to be late for my first day as a Junior. I was 16, so I was pretty young for my class, but that didn't stop me!
"You all set for school?" I asked Kai as we got ready.
"What if the kids don't like me?" Kai asked nervously. I had saved up every penny to buy Kai's uniform brand new. I didn't want him to have any reason for the other kids to make fun of him. It was mine that was more on the shabby side since it was used.
"Nonsense. How can anyone not like you?" I ruffled up his hair. "Just be yourself, and I'm sure you'll make friends in no time!"
He returned my smile, his spirits lifted.
"Let's go help Shino's mom make some breakfast for us all," I told him, shooing him out of the room. He never stayed down for very long, and I was thankful for that.
After breakfast, I helped clear the table. "Shino, I'll see you after school!" I called out as Kai and I left.
After dropping off Kai at his elementary school, I headed to the high school, which was only a few blocks away, thankfully. I walked to my assigned locker and wondered if I'd make any friends this year.

Arashi and I sat at the table eating breakfast together. I was more just stirring my cereal. I was too worried about going to the school. What if no one liked me? What if someone accidentally found out our secret? What if I made friends but God made us leave them? What if I couldn't fit in at all?
"School's going to be fine," Arashi said, cutting into my thoughts. "You're super smart, so don't worry about it too much."
I looked up, surprised. I hadn't meant for my thoughts to be so transparent. "I'm just nervous about making friends," I admitted. Of course, most of the Sohma's were going to this school, so even if I couldn't make friends with any of the normal students, I always had them to fall back on.
"You'll do fine," Arashi assured me.
As we were walking into the school, I took a deep breath. I glanced over at Arashi, "Are you nervous at all?" I asked him.
