You're stretching my words a little to far there! ^_^;
When I say art, I don't mean the abstract concept of imagination, rather the actual ability to draw. (but the definition of art is a personal one so it might be a pointless argument)
"there are some people who are better at one thing than another" was pretty much my point but I think what you're trying to say is that people have different styles of learning?
I agree, anyone can improve but I think you missed my point, which was whether or not she was trying hard enough. She always went to tutoring and studied in her free time and yet people insisted that she still wasn't trying hard enough. Just how much harder could she possibly try? what else could she do? Cut out eating and sleeping altogether? How do we know she wasn't giving it her all? Do we automatically assume that if someone fails at something, they must be a slacker? In a case like this, I think I can say that generic and empty advice is indeed useless.
Although, I do agree with you, I would have to say that things like being creative etc. really are things everyone has, and anybody can be artistic if they think about it from a different perspective. It's more of thinking out of the box.
There are some things I never get 'cause it's hard to sink in (*cough*math*cough), too, and I would try really hard to understand it. Yes I'm not entirely math minded, but if I really really really really really wanted to be I would try and dedicate myself to improving that aspect of myself.
So in other words, even though those words which are generic and most of the time pretty empty words you can't say they're not true.
Though there are some people who are better at one thing than another, it doesn't mean that person has absolutely no creativity or absolutely no understanding of a certain subject it means they might not specialize in it mentally. Like you might not be great at math, but that doesn't mean you art doing everything wrong.
I think it's not really that your friend doesn't understand it might be that she thinks from a different perspective that the teachers just don't understand how to teach to her.
Umm...sorry, I just starting ranting right now...'orz

That's very true; there are more types of intelligence than people usually think about... I have my basic psychology class to thank for teaching me this (and making me realize that Luffy's not dumb... he's just got higher combat intelligence than anything else :D)

@Alchemic Mushroom:
I think we're both missing each other's points.
