Tainted Wings

*Hey I have been thinking of making this into a manga and I wanted to get input on it before I posted so what do you think? By the way, the title is temporary until I think of a better one and everything here is completely fictional and anything related to a real person or an event is coincidential.*

No matter the time of day there is something always on my mind. Tugging in the deep recesses of my heart, constantly nagging, never a moment of silence, forever a bother.

I sat underneath a great oak tree gathering my thoughts as I fiddled with my bracelet. It is supposed to be a charm bracelet, but I only had one attached to it oddly enough. I remember having it even when I was younger. My sister had one too that was adorned with the same decorated deep blue jewel I had on mine. At home it is only my sister, Ayako and I. I had never met my parents before, but Ayako would sometimes tell me stuff about them. We actually grew up in an orphanage for a while until Ayako was old enough to take care of herself and she adopted me so we would not be seperated.

I stared outside as I saw the remainder of last nights rain fall to the ground. Plip. Plop. Plip. Plop. I love the rain because it is cold, wet, and I could relish it as rarely as it comes. I also hate the rain because of the same reasons. I really do not like to be left in that condition. I stood up and walked toward my school hearing the moist gravel underneath my feet.

There it is. Rosanne Heral Institute for Girls. I do not find it all that polite though. There are always girls drunk or even making out with people on campus. I thought that was odd when I first came here and I still am not used to it.

We are all required to wear the same uniform excluding some individuals. A white button-up blouse with a black skirt that reaches below the knees. We wear a black jacket which is emblazoned with the school insignia. The students at this school tend to alter it one way or another.

I approached my homeroom and opened the door. A girl with a petite figure rammed into my stomach pulling us both to the ground as we lost balance.

"Haruka! Where have you been? I haven't seen you in ages!"

"You just saw me ten minutes ago. You don't need to keep tabs on me Megumi."

"But I worry," the girl replied standing up as she adjusted a pink ribbon on her short brown hair. She innocuously pulled out a lollipop out of her handbag and started sucking on it while walking to her seat. I followed suit over to my seat.

"Haven't you had enough this morning? What is it like your eighth of the day?"

"He, he, he. It is actually up to eleven."

"You ate that much in fifteen minutes?!" I found it quite impossible to eat that much that fast.I pulled the stick out of her mouth and threw it into the trashcan. "That is way too much."

"Hey, that was the last of my favorite flavor!" She grimaced and turned away. "I'm not talking to you anymore." She stood up from next to me and moved to the opposite side of the room.

My mouth was gaped open and I shut it after I thought about how much of an idiot I looked. I made motions to reach out to her and tried to figure out what to say. The bell rang and that was the signal to stop talking. It left me disconcerted.

I glanced over to Mrs.Levy, our teacher. She was at her desk eating an apple while reading a book. It seems normal until you see her habit of appetite. She has to eat a certain type of fruit each day. An orange for Monday, grapes for Tuesday, plums for Wednesday, cherries for Thursday, and apples for Friday. The thing is that if she doesn't have that fruit for that day she directs her frustration to our grades and we suffer. She gets up from her desk and eyes each of us through her thin spectacles before beginning to speak.

"Today we have a new student. Her name is Rin. I expect you to all treat her with respect."

"Thank you Mrs.Levy," Rin said.

Rin sounded respectable, but she still had a misplaced quality about her. She had black hair running down one side of her face with deep red highlights. She was pretty tall compared to most of the girls I knew. Her eyes didn't stray too far until they found mine and smirked walking down the row until she got to me. There was no other seat available at the time and the only spot that was left was right next to me so she plopped down in her seat next to me.

"Hey, I have a bracelet just like that!" Rin had pointed out trying to strike up a conversation.

"What?" I look up at her incredulously. I was suprised at how quickly she struck up conversation. At the time I thought that someone having the same unique accessory was really impossible.

"Yeah, See?" Rin extended her arm and pointed to it. It had the same exact design, but with other jeweled charms clipped on. "We should hang out during lunch to get to know eachother. I need someone to help me while I get used to this school."

I glance over to Megumi and could have sworn she looked over to me, but she immediately turned away when she noticed I was looking too. I sighed and replied, "sure."

This whole routine lasted all day long. When I try to go to Megumi to apologize, she leaves off in the opposite direction. She shouldn't be mad over this stupid thing, but I hate it when we fight. It was all my fault. She should at least stick around so she could hear me say that I am sorry. Rin was getting close too. I think that was the part of the reason she was ignoring me.

I walked toward the girls restroom just to cool myself down for a while. I pulled on the handle and it wouldn't open. I just stood there for a good ten seconds glaring at the door. Then someone walked by and pushed the door open and went inside. Well I feel dumb for not thinking of that. I went through the door and to my suprise Megumi was on the other side. She stood there dumbfounded and I took the opportunity.

"Megumi, I'm sorry." I apologized then my eyes stared up uninterested at the wall because of the absense of a reply. "I just overeacted and never meant to hurt you."I shifted under my weight and looked at her again. Her eyes seemed distant at first as her mouth twisted into a wry grin and hugged me.
