I'm totally the same way, though not so much in front of friends. However, with a lot of people around, I tend to feel very socially awkward. I don't even like talking on the phone because of those seconds pf silence at the end of a call when you're trying to figure out who should hang up first or whatnot. XD
I do think it's something that people should try their best to move past, because in a lot of situations it can make us miss out on a lot of opportunities. I think it's a lot easier for people to be social over the net, but at the same time we've got to learn to be social out in the real world too. At least that's something I personally have to work on. Lol
