I just made up that quote. It’s relevant in some abstract sort of way. Haha.
I knew I had to choose wings for the picture because they really fascinate me. I know I’m not the only one, but I would love to have wings. Flying seems like such a graceful thing.
Anyways, here’s my playlist:
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town by Pearl Jam
Black Balloon by the Goo Goo Dolls
Superstar by Taylor Swift
Your Love by the Outfield
Just Like Heaven by The Cure
The Listening by Lights
Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms
Hand in my Pocket by Alanis Morissette
I Want You to Want Me by Cheap Trick
I Won’t Say I’m In Love by Disney (Hercules)
No Questions Asked by Fleetwood Mac
Sympathy by the Goo Goo Dolls
You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones
All I Want Is You by U2
My playlist consists of fourteen songs, and even though they’re all different in a lot of ways, they each do have something in common: they’re all love songs. I don’t know why or when it started, but I’ve always been a hopeless romantic. Even today, although I’m dating the boy I’ve been crazy about for over three years (today’s actually our year and a half anniversary~ haha), I’m still very passionate about these songs, which are mostly about broken love, misunderstandings, or unwavering, but unfulfilled desire. Each song contains at least one lyric that speaks to me the most and which gives each song its place in this list. I could honestly explain every one of these songs, but no one would read all of that, so I’ll only choose a few:
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town by Pearl Jam
This one has a seriously long title. Haha. Alright, so this song is about an old woman who never left her hometown even though she always wanted to and one day her old lover, who had left the town, finally returns. She recognizes him, but she isn’t sure if he remembers her. The reason I chose this song is because of the lyric: “I changed by not changing at all.” Perhaps I’ve changed a lot over the course of 18 years, but essentially, I’m the same. I guess that’s pretty cliché, but hey, it’s true. Haha.
Black Balloon by the Goo Goo Dolls
This is a song about untouchable love, in my opinion. For some reason, I always find things like this beautiful and for a long time I thought my love was untouchable, so of course I feel like I can relate to this song. Also, I really like the imagery of falling and also flying. My favorite lyric in the song is: “I’ll become what you became to me.” It’s the last lyric in the song, and the last proclamation of love, which I think is really beautiful and touching. I feel this way about my life as well.
Superstar by Taylor Swift
This one is a very sweet song by Taylor Swift. For a long time I felt like I would never have the boy that I wanted (who is now my boyfriend ;D), and like in this song, I felt like I was too far on the outside to reach out to him. Sometimes he still feels like a superstar to me and I feel insufficient, though, because the two of us are completely different and sometimes I don’t know if I can be everything he wants. Of course, if it comes down to that, it would be for the best, but thus far he’s always convinced me that I’m the one who makes him happy and he’s the one who makes me happy as well. I’d really like to believe it’s true, even if I’m only 18. Sometimes my hopeless romanticism has to meet with my logical side. Eh. Haha. Anyways, my favorite lyric is: “Dim that spotlight, tell me things like, ‘I can’t take my eyes off of you.’”
Your Love by the Outfield
Okay, this is kind of bad, but this is my favorite song. It’s bad, though, because the song is about a guy who cheats on his girlfriend while she’s away. Hahahaha. I dunno why, but I just really like this song, but not for the message it sends out! Anyways, I like the lyrics that says “I like my girls a little bit older” because I’m 4 months older than my boyfriend. :P My favorite lyric is this one, though: “Just cuz you’re right, it don’t mean I’m wrong.”
Hand in my Pocket by Alanis Morissette
This song is full of contradictions in the singer’s personality, which I really like. Obviously we’re all full of contradictions, but that’s what makes us human, I suppose. (Yep, that was cliché, too. Haha.) I like this song because I feel like she’s telling the person she loves about who she is and he can either take her or leave her for it. My favorite lyric is: “I’m wrong and I’m sorry.” I guess I’m wrong a lot of times and I am sorry for that. And I just realized this lyric contradicts the one before it! That's so funny and relevant. Haha.
I Won’t Say I’m In Love by Disney (Hercules)
I just love this one because, obviously, the whole song is about how she’s totally head-over-heels in love. Haha.
Sympathy by the Goo Goo Dolls
I like the concept of this song. The singer’s love stands by him even though the singer has done wrong many times before. All the lyrics are really meaningful to me, but my favorite (possibly) lyric(s) is: “It’s hard to lead the live you choose when all your luck’s run out on you. And you can’t see when all your dreams are coming true.” I also like the lyric that says, “I’m killing myself from the inside-out” because I take that as his emotions are tearing him apart. I’ve understood that feeling before, but I think so have a lot of other people as well.
You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones
This is kinda weird, but my favorite lyric is very insignificant. Haha. Here it is: “My favorite flavor, cherry red.”
Yeah.
All I Want Is You by U2
The name of the song explains a lot, but the lyrics of the song explain more. The singer speaks to his lover by telling her how much she wants material things and what kind of material things she can give him as well, but all he wants is her. Hahahah. It’s corny, but I think it’s so darling. The song is slow and sort of like a lullaby, which makes it even more beautiful, in my opinion. And, of course, I feel this way about my relationship as well. I don’t need material things as long as I have himmmmm. Haha.
So I guess now I should explain my philosophy. I don't really have one.. I just move with how I feel. If I'm feeling heartbroken, it's okay. If I'm feeling like I'm floating, that's okay too, of course. Obviously I want to be more happy than sad, but I think each emotion is precious and I wouldn't want to lose any of them. Even if I'm in love, I don't want to lose the feeling of loneliness because I think that emotion enhances the way I feel about right now.
This philosophy makes no sense. Haha. But yeah. Emotions are beautiful. *_*
AND SUPER THANKS IF YOU READ ALL THIS.
