The text comes from the verse in the Bible, namely from Colossians 1:20.

Colossians 1:19-21 says, "For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled..."

This verse is about the sacrifice that Jesus made on behalf of all mankind. Through Jesus' shed blood on the cross, we (mankind) can know peace through Him.

I chose Nicolas D. Wolfwood from Trigun because he's one of my favorite characters, he always carries a cross with him, and he strives for the peace of men but he sheds their blood to obtain that. Wolfwood says his cross is so heavy because "it's full of mercy." Anyway, he's a pretty good match, I think, for this passage.
