Sweet! I would do so much to do the same... unfortunately, a lot of the aviation part of my background has ended up in just where this challenge talks about - bygone days. It became just too expensive to keep up, my dad hasn't flown in decades, I guess he keeps some opening or connection to his old license, but hasn't been able to do anything with it. it's funny, he's generally extremely practical and realistic but the connections he has left to the piloting days just seem to be something he's not willing to completely give up even if it is unlikely he'll make it back in the air, at least not anytime soon. I don't blame him one bit, it's just in any other matter other than aviation it'd be totally out of character for him.
...oddly, though, I took a ride in a New Standard biplane at an airshow at the beginning of the year (that was when I found out my great grandpa flew, and in apparently a very similar sort of plane), it was simultaneously one of the scariest and most wonderful things I've gotten to do, but now I can't get the notion of wanting to at least try learning to fly out of my head despite how scared I actually was in that open cockpit...I think that little jaunt created a monster >.>...a monster that probably will go unfulfilled, but a sort of monster that won't quit bugging me none the less. lol *facedesk*

Lol, that's awesome! My dad's an airplane mechanic and has a lot of museums and Warbird caretakers (from around the world) coming to him to repair their planes ^^ Our shop is never without at pleast a P-51, Corsair, or BT-13 part XDD
And my Pop even worked on planes during the war too and actually worked on the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped Little Boy)
I love planes so much XDD I've even flown in a legitimate P-51 Mustang, the Grim Reaper ^^ *has a picture on here that she drew of it*
LOL yep, I believe my great grandpa was into barnstorming or some sort of flying back then, my grandpa after him flew civil plane and was a crewchief on B-29s during Korea, and my dad after him was a civil pilot doing things like flying the local traffic reporters around for their reporting duties, did some work on F-4s and F-104s, and has worked for Lockheed for the past 33 years or so XD
it was funny because I knew I had two generations of pilots behind me, but it wasn't until the beginning of this year that I found out my great grandpa also flew.
I like all sorts of eras of planes, but I also love the WWII era and the Warbirds that came of it, definitely a time that produced some of my all-time favorites ^^

I grew up in aviation and have a ton of family history in it too XDDD
My preferred aviation is the WWII era though~

I suppose the 1940's is a good time. *chuckles* This should be fun...
