While all entries were fantastic, congratulations to nikkeh09 for winning. I chose her work in the end because of the interesting symbolism with the son-mother connection.
Princess Mononoke, for sure. That story has only resonated more strongly as time has gone by. And, in spite of the weird backlash surrounding the dub, I enjoyed Neil Gaiman's translation/alterations, and Claire Danes was great. Also, Billy Bob 'Slingblade' Thorton in an anime? Can't beat it.
I think i saw this late but i'll try to get something up before the dead line.
Ugh my favorite Ghibli movie? That's a tough question to answer. There's something unique and special about each one. I think though, that my favorite Ghibli creation is Spirited Away. It's like a modern fairy tale but with a big twist and a lot of heart. chihiro is young and afraid of change. She becomes stuck in the spirit world after crossing it's line. Her parents are turned into pigs and are in danger of being eaten.but in order to save her parents and return home Chihiro must face her fears and conquer them. With the help of Haku of coarse. Which she also helps save from a spell. Over all it's just an amazing movie. The animation and the theme of love, friendship and courage is really beautiful.
My favorite all time movie since i was small, and is still, Princess Mononoke, I loved that movie and it was my first movie to introduce me to Ghibli films, It was fantastic in the ways they portrayed old world myth and fantasy together! just adored that movie. I also love how Miyazaki portrays strong female leads that don't just "fall in love" they are strong willful girls who fight for what they believe in and teach us something meaningful.
