This contest is calling me!I wish I could join so badly! But what really catches my eye is how well you spoke of your analysis towards storylines and how it actually made me think of I should work on the way I draw.....If I could ask..that you could teach me what you know....I find the info in this challange alone valuable!I also wanted to ask, once I actually START to post things on my account, that may you critique my work?
Sorry, I just responded to your PM....I've been polishing up my short Saiban for an upcoming convention and I've not been on the O in a few weeks! I feel so bad! But yes...you can submit just line art, that is fine. Mostly looking for consistancy in artwork and good story telling!
umm...I don't think you got my PM so I'll comment here:
I was wondering if I had to make the pages look like a manga...as in would I lose points if I just lineArt it and add in the text?? I'm asking because it's going to take way too much time adding in screentones and stuff and I'm afraid that I'll miss the deadline ^^
Yes, you can add pages after you scan in a few. The due date is May 9th. Actually, after you scan in the cover and wait the 24 hours for it to upload (if you still have to wait) you can add the pages after that and they'll appear right away.
okay i have a question. i am going to scan in some pages today... can you add more pages to the entry once you submit it? when is it due by? aaaaand..... if i scan in page one, and add the cover later, will it let me?
well, I'm not so concerned as to what size of paper I draw it on, as I am to what size I submit it in. I'm using Xara Xtreme, so I could make it the size of a school bus or a needle's eye if I wanted. but thank you for your response. I checked the rules, and I couldn't submit it at a professional size if I wanted to. I'll just use the 1500x2000 format.
You don't have to submit it all at once. Actually, it's probably easier to submit the cover first, wait the 24 hours until it's accepted, then you can upload the pages as you get them done, if you like. Just as long as the final page is uploaded by the deadline.
Its a lot like submitting fan art, really. The submission process is pretty user-friendly and easy to figure out.
As for paper size, whatever size your scanner will take should be fine. Speaking from personal experience, I sketch out each page on 9 x 12 paper, scan it in, and ink and tone on Manga Studio. But I do have an earlier short that I did all the inking, colouring, and text by hand (I didn't want to fix it up on the computer because it was a for fun kinda thing). Although, ordinary printer paper works just fine as well.
Sounds interesting! I'm working on a comic right now. Although it's already quite a bit over 30 pages, this would be a good chance to finish of the plot I have planned out in my head, or maybe rework it from the beginning a bit.
I'll definitely think about entering. <3
Hey, I've never done a fan comic, and I was wondering what size and format of paper are they usually submitted in? I believe that I have the necessary tools to make it look professional.
It looks like you can add pages over time, correct?Such as add the cover and a few pages today and add more tomorrow? I've never done a comics challenge before.
now THIS is a real challenge...i have the 1st 7 pages done already since i made them 4 one other contest..but this would be nice opportunity to continue it...i will strongly think about it..theres plenty of time..:)
You could say that. Though, as I said, after thinking about it, I would not disqualify anyone that wanted to enter the first 30 or so pages of a manga.
If the deadline is drawing near and a lot of people still aren't done yet, PM me and let me know and I'll extend the deadline. I want everyone who would like to enter to have a chance to get their entry posted.
No real limit on pages, I just suggested 30 pages as a guideline. I understand that sometimes the story is as many pages as the plot demands, so to speak. If you need 50 pages to tell a short story, by all means do so. If you only need 19, then only take 19.
I would prefer original characters and plot ideas (well, I suppose no plot idea is original) or, if you want, take an exsisting plot and give it your own original flare (young farm boy marches off to fight evil overlord, befriends a pirate, saves princess....the basic plot to Star Wars...replace the spaceships with horses and there you go!)
Characters like Naruto, Inu-Yasha - they are already established characters and we already know them. But if you like to read Naruto, for example, you can make your original characters ninja and go from there.
Sounds like fun! I have a story in writing that I've kind of been dying to put down in drawings forever. I have no idea how far I'll get (I'm not that good at finishing things) but I'll try!
Hmm, I'm working on a manga right now, it'd be longer than 30 pages completed though, much longer. However by the deadline, 30 pages would be about the number of pages I could muster. Hmm... I also have another one, though it doesn't have a set ending, but it can have 30 pages for ya.
Actually, let me modify that remark: if you (or anyone else) would like to submit the first 30 pages of a manga, that would be OK. However, they would really have to grab my attention (pretend you're submitting to a publisher and you want to keep it out of the dreaded slush pile!)
I would prefer blank paper, but I also understand sometimes its just not possible to get your hands on it, so if all you have is lined paper, that would be OK. I would prefer a short story, however, to the first 30 pages of a manga. Perhaps you could do a side story from your manga that might fill in a bit more of the main character's life, like a gaiden. It can be longer or shorter than 30 pages, if it needs to be.
okay, I have sooo many ideas!! but they're more than even one chapter, let alone 30 pages...do you want me to create a whole new short story or can I submit the first 30 pages of the manga?
Maybe you could use a digital camera and take a picture and pull it over to a photo program....as long as it was readable, that would be acceptable to me.
