AHH!!! SO COOL!!!
*huggles The Erin-chan*
You need to try your hand at drawing a bit more stuff of this vibe! This is excellent!
Heh heh, this kind of stuff is very oriented toward my style of subject matter. As anyone knows, I gravitate towards the psychological, original and solid yet somehow slightly off-putting style in my drawings. Meaning, this kind of thing is just up my alley, so I rather enjoy seeing you try your masterful hand at it. =D
Honestly, I dont think this is more creepy than your usual style.
More abstract, definitely, but that in itself doesnt make it creepy, sick or anything carrying such a negative connotation.
By the way, you said this was for a project in Art Class. Tell me, what was that project/assignment? Im curios as to what parameters produced this work.
Anyway, on to the drawing! ^_^
As you could probably guess, Im loving the straight-jacket. I love how you rendered it; particularly the wrinkles (wrinkles are so darn hard to draw!).
I also like how you didnt render it to be a perfectly accurate straight-jacket; well, at least not a perfectly accurate modern straight-jacket. This jacket looks more like its from before the 19th century; back when they were still beating, caging and shocking the perpetrators of outbursts at the mental clinic. Dark days, those were. Dark days indeed...
Anyway, now that Im done with my history lesson, back to the piece.
I love the way you rendered the belts. The inorganic shapes plus their varied size & placement has me positively in awe. You didnt overdue the detail on them, and the asymmetry of their distribution helps add balance to this piece. Excellent, EXCELLENT work, Erin-chan. b^_^
As far as design, I love the choice of blue hair for this character. Had I been sitting there with you, I would have voted against blue hair. But the hue does a great job of balancing the colors in this piece, and the general thickness of his hair helps balance the special aspect of this piece.
I also love how you made his one visible eye all blood-shot. It adds an excellent air to this pic, and it shows nice attention to detail. ~_^
The bandaging over the mouth looks extremely nice, too (and its also a fine alternative to a leather-strap or a ball-gag. o_o ).
On the more philosophical side of this piece, Im honestly not detecting a crazy vibe here. The straight-jacket appears to be more psychological or emotional to me; possibly symbolizing something.
Whatever the reason, the vibe Im picking up is saying he doesnt belong in a straight-jacket.
Im wondering, did somebody put him there? Someone he now has a grudge against?
Or maybe he put himself in the straight-jacket, both the action and the item being metaphorical in nature.
Am I getting to deep for you? ^_^
Sorry, but its rare that I find a piece thats so emotionally thought-provoking.
Seriously, Im not trying to BS you with flattery; I honestly feel some deep-running themes within this piece. That shows the truest of talent, Erin-chan. b^_^
Anyway, excellent work on this piece as well, Erin-chan. I hope to see more artwork of this depth and nature produced by you soon. Youve honestly left me quite impressed. b^_^d
I love the dementedness! I really like the hair style and how you shaded the hair. And then there's that one eye peering out of the bangs -- nice, creepy touch.
I like this one, I don't care if its "demented"! It would've probably looked even more demented if the bg was black.
I love how you did the hair in this one, too. The details in the clothes are really good too. ^^
Awesome job, as always. ^^
