One night in the late winter, Hiei had just settled his mind into his bed. However in his dreams everything was anything but settled. In his sleep, he became troubled. He felt as if what he was seeing was real, rather than a mere illusion from his subconscious.
From the vision he was running at top speed towards an old abandoned warehouse at the edge of the town of Ningenkai. The clouds grayed the once baby blue sky with the rain falling from them. Hiei had gotten word that his sister, Yukina had been kidnapped and taken to the warehouse where she remained bound and gagged by her captors. The captors themselves where an unknown group of thugs, demons from Makai causing mischief where ever they went. This time without warning, these thugs had captured Yukina, holding her life in their filthy hands. They had demanded a ransom of unspecified proportions from her only brother. He got word of her disappearance just as he was contemplating telling her the truth about himself to her and the relationship of siblinghood he shared with her.
As Hiei neared the warehouse near the railroad tracks at the edge of the town, he noticed in the third-floor window opening on the west side of the building the silhouette of his sister. Upon entering the building itself, he saw nobody else occupying the building. The demons had long since disappeared, leaving their catch abandoned. The building itself was left in the dark, no lights on in anyplace. The only light he could see were from the dimmed light of the sun, which for the most part was covered by clouds. He approached the staircase and raced to the third floor. Awaiting Hiei was his sister. He found her sitting in an old wooden chair, her arms bound behind the back with braided rope, her mouth covered by a red bandanna. As he looked into her eyes, the light that was once there seemed to be faded into nothingness. The warm in her face had long since dissipated. He rushed to her and stood before her. However when he unknotted the rope binding her hands, her body suddenly dropped into his arms like a rag doll. "Yukina!!" he called out, feeling her clammy skin, "what's wrong? Please respond, please." He shook her, trying to awaken her, but to no avail. His voice became desperate to hear her voice again. He constantly pleaded her to awaken, asking her not to leave him. Then finally he places his left his left ear over her heart, only to hear nothing but bleak silence. He hugged her body as tight as he could. His eyes became filled with tears. "Yukina!"
As soon as he yelled that, he woke up in his bed, back in his apartment. Immediately, he sat up in the bed. "Yukina," he said, still in his dream, "I thought by concealing my identity from you, you would be safe from me. I had no idea my own secret would be the very demon to steal you away from me." The tears forming in his eyes choked Hiei's words. The lump forming in his throat refused to budge. His lower lip and chin quivered, uttering a sorrowful sigh. He placed his right hand over his eyes, forming a loose fist. He rested his right elbow atop his right knee. He allowed his eyes to release the deluge of tears. The thought of seeing his sister dead, even though it was just a dream, became too much for him. As he sat in the bed, continuing to sob, he felt warm hands touching his shoulders. In the moonlight streaming into his still dark room, he saw her face. "Oh, Yukina." She knelt down to him, and like in the dream he hugged her, crying into her kimono. Only this time when he hugged her, the warmth he longed for was present. "Yukina, I have...I have something to tell you." She shook her head. "You don't have to," she reassured him, "I already know. I had the same dream." With those words from her lips, he felt as if he could hold her indefinitely.
