Yeah, it's done on wood. It looks like black ink, but the lines are actually burned into the wood with a burning iron that has tips like pen nibs.

Pyrography (that's the fancy word for wood burning that I didn't know at the time I posted these here) isn't complicated, but it is a challenge. There's a very hot burning iron involved and I've lost count of the times I burned myself on these projects, but the end results are worth the pains.

It's great that you mention wanting to try it out, that means the planning I'm putting into a basic "how-to" for pyrography art is well placed. I'll cover safety and stuff in the "how-to" guide.
