The mood of the photograph was exactly what called me to draw it. It spoke to me not only of the incredible suffering of loss, but also of hope in the kindness and compassion of mankind.
And thank you Mask, not just for your kind words but also the way you said them. Do not worry that your comments are too long; on the contrary, it's quite refreshing to read an intelligently worded post on the Internet.

This is such a sad drawing. I took a look at the original photograph, and it was just as sad. When one empathizes with the person in this drawing, you can't help but be heartbroken and be leads to even a droplet of tear.
You drew the artwork very well. I guess the pencils were what helped make this piece dramatic, along with an outstanding ability in shading. It was through this that an atmosphere of sadness and sorrow was made in your piece.
Still, a picture is worth a thousand words. In order for one to truly appreciate this, the description must be read. And it's good of you to supply us with that vital description.
I'm sorry for the long comment; it's just that your drawing was so wonderful and powerful that I had to say these words. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing a new lesson to me and to others.

That's AMAZING! I could never draw anything that isn't in an anime style. I'm so jealous. It's a beautiful picture, and you did an amazing job on it.
