Advice? How's about drawing the guy as if he were reaching out to her desperately from another realm. Starting from the hand closest to the girl, you could gradually lighten or desaturate the body as you get farther from her. Giving him a more, "I don't want to be forgotten/left behind" look might be good also. :D
If it sounds confusing, I could always draw a quick thumbnail of it. That way you'd actually 'see' what I'm talking about. ^^d
