Oh I know what you mean, I even thought about trying to invent some kind of glove you can wear in order to make it not smudge.
But, um, those little moldable eraser things are quite handy at getting rid of smudging, whatever they're called...

I really wonder why there are just so few people who've actually seen this and commented on it. This work looks great!
How did you prevent the drawing from getting smudged? I rarely draw much in the background, because my drawings get smudged easily. >__<
