Well, what I do to get around that most of the time is press down on the back of the book while it scans. That's all good and dandy but it tends to strain my muscles a bit. I'm not exactly in the best of shape. ^^; Another method I use is to let the coil of the book hang off the scanner and rest inside of the space where the hinges are for the flip top. The book tends to slide into place and I get better scans like that. Ripping out the page is an option too.. but I don't know where'd I'd put the drawing after I've ripped it out. I like to stay tidy. Plus I like the whole idea of flipping through the sketchbook--not loose papers. :P
If you haven't seen my latest upload, check it out. It's one with hands. I learned a way to clean up traditional drawings and turn them into clean linearts. It's time consuming and requires a bit of patience but it has descent results. :]
At the moment, I'm working on coloring one of my old sketches. I'll submit it when I'm done. Please let me know what you think when I'm done.
My scanner's a flip top too and I have a sketchbook like yours so I understand your situation. Like right now, I don't have the heart to rip out any page in my sketchbook so they are left there, unscanned. DX
I suggest you take the page out if you want to have a clear scan which will benefit you when you want to color in Photoshop. Because I think the annoying gradient thing from exposure can really get in the way.
Hehe, it was my pleasure to look at your artworks. ^^
You are right when you point out the darkness to most of my drawings. It's because I draw in a spiral sketchbook. The pages aren't perforated either. I did have a book like that but it's already full with nonsensical chicken-scratch. Dx Every time I scan an image, there's this annoying gradient. It kills me. I simply crop the scan so that it looks flat. Guess even that's not working to my favor. lol
Do you think I should just remove the page or something? I have an HP computer complete with a 2100 series, 3 in 1 HP Scanner. Somehow, I expect you to know what that looks like. lmao But yeah.. It's a flip top.
I'm actually flattered you took time to look
at those old doodles of mine, you know.. ^^;
Aw, thanks! XD I really like her design. When I first started playing soul calibur, I just kept using Talim, lolz.
Oh yeah, usually when the image that was set to screen is too bright, I adjust its opacity. But I also copy the layer and set it to multiply to thicken the lines. When I looked through your scanned images, one thought that came to me was that your image is exposed to the lights outside the scanner, which can result in dark images. That's from my experience with my scanner, that is so I'm not sure about your scanner.
Again, thank you! :3
Later... Okay. I'm fine now. I slowly put a envelope to it's back and pressed hard. A deafening crunch emitted from underneath the letter.. I dare not lift it.
So as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted... Your compliments are appreciated. And hopefully I can make you feel the same way about my next submission.
Thanks! It's a great game and the amount of time I put into making the costume in the game made me want to invest more of my time in the drawing. :] I'll try to keep this amount of detail consistent from now on and build upon it. :D

Holy crap that looks awesome. Seems like you put more detail into this one than into most previous works.
Very cool.
