Hum. :/ There is one thing you can do, but it's not as efficient. Do steps 1-6 from my other comment. Then click on the wand tool (above the eyedropper tool), and click on the white parts of the picture. (You can have multiple part selected if you hold shift while you click.) Pretty much, you're selecting all the white parts, then erase them with the eraser tool. :/ It doesn't turn out as good, though, and it's a very long and tedious process.
Can you sreencap what modes there are for the brush tool? (sorry! >_<;;;;)

Are you absolutely sure that you are using the BRUSH tool, not the ERASER tool?

Lemme walk you through this again. xD

1) copy picture
2) Open gimp and a new file
3) Select edit>paste as>new image. (The line art should appear on a new canvas.) (example)
4) Close empty canvas
5) Right click on pasted layer and click duplicate layer. (example)
6) Delete the pasted layer. (NOT THE COPY.) The reason I did this is because there are certain things you can't do on the background that you can do on normal layers.
7) Click the arrow on the color pallete so white is on top and black is on the bottom. (example)
8) Set paintbrush to color erase. (I also reccomend changing the brush scale to 10.00) (example)
9) Brush away! ;D (example)

After you brush away all the white, the line art should work like normal. Then you can start coloring! ^^

The picture is great ,I love the details of the line-art and all the life it haves .I would be very happy to color it,but you probably will have to wait for m finals to be over.Yeah I don't know what I will do!!

Sure! ^^ Oh, and here's how to change the white to transparent, if you're using Gimp:

1) duplicate the layer
2) Select paintbrush tool and change mode to color erase
3) press the arrow above the color pallate thingie
4) Color the paintbrush over the picture
...And I think it'll work. xD; If it doesn't, tell me.
