And for the record, I like how the colors of the sky look like the sun is just starting to set, the best. Nice and soft.

What you said is true.

However, telling yourself your work is ugly as sin just so you'll practice it is self-destructive and stupid. I'm sorry for how harsh that is, but it's the truth.

Being good at something doesn't automatically make you perfect; practicing when you recognise your own talents is called striving for perfection.

I understand the desire to avoid developing an ego, but constant self-deprecation is actually the negative version of the same thing. Whether you're proclaiming how amazing you are or proclaiming how crappy you are, you are both touting obvious lies as if they are true and glorying/abasing yourself for attention. The focus isn't on the art and its quality at this point, it's on you and how much you rock/suck.

So stop thinking about it. If someone complements you, say thank you and let it go if you really don't want to make a big deal out of it. They're happy because you acknowledged their praise, you didn't artificially inflate yourself, and the topic closes without requiring you to brag.
