The dragon is not reciting the poem. It refers to the guy named Vladimir. Vladimir has a weird sense of humor, kind of morbid. He rarely shows any signs of sadness because he finds that to be a weakness. he usually smiles to cover up the pain he is really feeling.

I like the dragon. The peoms okay too, but whys the dude smileing if the poem is sad? It seemed sad to me. Or is it the dragon thats reciting? He looks sad. He's got a pointy-eared man on his head.
