You can even see the dispair in his eyes. You did a amazing job on it and the writing! It sums up the picture and the emotions perfectly.
And it's like that little kanji is left to symbolizes that all he has left now, is his honor. Is that correct?

I could only imagine how painful that could be.

That must be so tough to be left alone on the battlefield like that. I can imagine how it would feel after everything was over. Like, you wouldn't even be paying attention during the whole thing, but then when you let it all set in, you realize how alone and sad things really are.
