I did shade the background first though. Ha ha ha. Is that not what I said? Maybe I phrased it wrong. But anyways, I will be awaiting your private message for an example. I think it would help greatly and obviously so do you, because you are the one who is sending it in the first place.
Oh, focusing on the carrots is fine. (They're the subject, and they're supposed to be focused on!) It just looks like you shape the background around the carrots, instead of behind the carrots.
Try shading your background before you work on the foreground. That can be hard, especially if the subject is interacting with the background in some way (like wrinkling the table cloth), but it might help. Once you're done with the background, add the foreground (carrots!) and any shadows that are a direct result of carrots.
You have a lot of shading and highlights on the table, which makes it seem lumpy. (The more even your shading, the flatter the surface.)
I'm going to send you a PM with an example of what I mean.
Yes, I am very new to drawing and well, it is difficult for me to get things in order. Especially fruits and vegetables. My teacher has taught me to start everything with a light shaded background first so we are forced to add shadows and lighting. The table had a clothe on it that was kind of lumping, but I don't think I captured it right. I will try not to focus so much on the carrots for next time. Thank you. Any tips on how to change it, like to not make it so lumpy or whatever?
Okay. Sorry, I didn't mean to get off on a tangent; it's just nice to have a sense of scale.
I like the texture on the carrots; it turned out well.
The way you did the shading on the surface of the table (it looks like you were focusing on shaping the carrots instead of the background) looks a little odd—like everything is sitting on a half-inflated air mattress, or something equally squishy.
Did you start by doing the background first, or was it added afterwards?
oooohhh ....i heard doing it with other peace of paper does the trick as well
:)
thought when i went to these drawing classes my sensei told me it s not professional to do that but when i always did that he said ohh thats ok..noones pro here...
or maybe he said it was not pro to do it with a finger..hmmm....it was soooooooooo long ago...gosh..hmm...*thinks*
well i there are special tools for this stuff it must be pro stuff..
What do you mean by ground level? I'm confused, ha ha ha. Sorry I'm still new to art and stuff...
Yeah art class projects are a bore most of the time. I'd just thought I'd post them up. I will be drawing a realistic Sakura for that pencil contest though. I can't wait to get started on it!
What do you mean? Of the carrot? lol. The carrot was pretty huge, and my eyes like to do a zoom focus on things. I would say around 7 inches high or 8 inches. And that's after chopping it up, ha ha ha.
ha ha ha, you just sent me the same thing that you wrote in my private little message. Why are you laughing so hard? Your joy confuses me. Either way thanks for the comment it really means a lot to hear from people...like you? XD.
this is interesting
the title really caught my eye
*laughs with tears*
this is the best drawing ever !!!!
it reminded me of my years in high school...when I used to draw on the back of my notebooks when the class became bored...
nice work my friend
hugs + fav for a job well done ^____^
Thank you very much. I have been trying to work on getting my tones lighter but I'm just so rough with pencils these days...it's my technique I suppose.
She is becoming a pain and is making me seem pretty worthless in the class.
Yeah I don't know why she's been like that. I think she thinks I'm stuck up or something ((shrugs)).
Thank you very much for the comment, it means a lot getting some feedback.
Actually when I was at Lucky's yesterday I saw a whole bunch of carrots lined up and toppled on top of each other very beautiful. I am also a photographer, well, I like photography and focus on concepts and stuff like that. But anyways, when I saw it I just fell in love with the angle. I wish I could have drawn that but then I'd be there for hours just staring at it. They'd kick me out for sure.
There is actually a story about this picture. I think I wrote it in my description but I'll tell it again anyways. It's a giant carrot on the table, right? And he has created mini hims, they are all a part of the same whole but because he is bigger he is the leader. They look up to the giant one because he is the one who created him. It's pretty complex when i think of it again. Maybe it is me feeling more high about myself?
It makes me wonder why you chopped up the carrot pieces and grouped them together like that. It's very interesting and the angle is different. It's better than looking at something cliche. You know what would have been interesting? A whole bunch of carrots put together in a bundle. Man, that sounds kinda hard, but I bet it would have been worth it. I think this picture is awesome, your shading skills make me weep ;__; So cool! I can't believe your teacher just dismissed it like that. What a wench

Oh yes you made perfect sense this time. It's not your english that is bad it's my comprehension, ha ha ha.
No that was actually part of the same paper, I just shaded it differently using a blending stump. Pretty handy those things are.
