Yeah I dunno what my teacher was smoking that day lol. He was like, really cool and all, but then he saw some of my other drawings and just bumped me up like that. I wasn't even that great back then, I don't know what he saw in me lol

I'm actually thinking about drawing a realistic Sakura from Naruto writing with a pencil. Even though it would totally be out of context from Japanese culture I think it would be fun. Since I like to draw realistic girls.

I don't think it was fair that your art teacher bumped you up a class without getting the Okay from you. You learn a lot in the beginner classes, like how to shade and all the different terminologies and things like that. It's the basic things you need to know to take through the harder classes and to apply to your own art.

I still think your style is great. And I don't think shading has to be realistic to be great. Like it works great for cartoons to! Just gotta give them shape so they seem more full.

Yeah, I suck at shading realism. I can do the lineart of it but the shading is so hard. I remember once I took an art class and then the teacher was so impressed with my lines that he promoted me to the harder class and I hated it. I just gave up in that class because we didn't learn anything, she just expected everyone to know how to do everything already u__u So yeah, art class was a bummer. You should totally join the contest, I saw that carrot picture! Maybe you can do a picture of yourself or something, or try making a character writing or something. I can't wait to see what you'll put up

What contest is this exactly? I have seen some entries and I'm thinking about drawing for it...since I use pencils all the time, ha ha ha. No no, don't tell me more about it, I'll just go check it out myself.

Back to this picture. I think it's great! I love the variety of grays. The black eyeliner around his eyes work nicely. I would have loved to see more lighter shades and darker shades though, just to give his face that realistic feel to it. That would have been very awesome!
