Yeah I know what you ment with the coloring.Sometimes I'm also not very happy with one coloring or another,but to tell you the truth the coloring is not the problem.Any coloring would work with an accurate highligh shadow map.The deep coloring challenge residing in this picture is that it's very hard to form a shadow highlight map on a 2-D picture.It's so hard that it's one of the hardest things to do,if you turn the picture into a black gray white scale you will notice it right away.If you turn your momo picture all into black it will still hold its shape really nicely.

So your next area of training is easily deduced,you need to train on 3-D modeling software.Your brush technique is already mastered.
