I also like your classic style for the best use of acrylics I will see. It's really nice and since you like it so much I think part of that is printet on each artwork, making it unique. It's gona be a hrd semester but I been training on how to draw faster. With a nice tablet and all the hotkeys in photoshop you can do miracles haha!
I'd be satisfied if it made some people visit you and wish you a belated birthday! This was a gift for you, and the rest is just, if you will pardon me, icing on the cake.
I have to admit that I'm still happy with my Vicious fanart, after all these years! I can't say that with too many of my pieces, but I think this one too will hold up after time. Completely painted pictures tend to be like that for me.
As for that whole 'I', 'C', and 'E' thing, that's why I love-hate the English language so much. Its formation rules are so arbitrary at times, and seemingly ad-hoc at others. Maybe we should all start using net-speak, haha!
Wow, man. Congratulations on all the well deserved praise and on being featured. Truly beautiful piece. <_<' How does this I before E except after C work? I'm not 100% sure I spelled that right. This art has me distracted. That background and the facial expression just blew me away. Both of them so profound. The background cause of the detail and skillfulness of the execution, and the expression cause of what might be behind it. Great work indeed Pleiades.
People do love angelic images. This IS some of your best work, but I'd have to disagree with some people and hold true to your Vicious and EVA art. I've never seen this show, so maybe that's why I'm bias.
Yeah, my older pictures were done entirely with paints, and I added some CG effect after I finished a painting (usually a title or some CG effect). My favorite pieces are the ones that I've done completely in paint, and I'll have to do more of them. I enjoy the look that I get with acrylics and watercolors, especially when the background is painted, too.
I hope you keep drawing too! I know it's hard to find the time, but I hope you do find time to draw some more, my friend!
Really a great picture.
It makes me go back to the old days when you used a lot your detailed backgrounds. Those acrylics are hard to use and take a long time, but the results really show by themselves.I wish I had time and strenght to draw, needed to meditate about the upcoming battle.
See below comment, concerning vee209's magnificent artwork. But, thank you for the kind praise! (I've seen your art around, too. It definitely has a character of its own, which is distinguishable from other artworks I've seen on here.)
That's pretty close to what I wanted to capture with this: a sad, yet hopeful feel. Those feeling run throughout Haibane Renmei, and it was my intent to communicate those feelings with this. I'm very happy that someone noticed them in this piece, for it tells me that I've finally managed to do something right with my art!
I'm flattered that you consider it such, but I remember one fantastic artwork being featured that blew me away: "Sonia: Oil Study no. 2", by vee209 .
Again, I forgot to edit the description to include more detail in what materials I used! I used acrylic paints entirely for the background. The character has some watercolors, but it too is mainly acrylics. The background paints (i.e. the acrylics) were painted on in many many layers. I thinned out the paints with water so I could control the "depth" of the colors better.
Imagine my surprise when I signed in to find numerous PM's and comments! I didn't notice it right away on the front page, but I finally noticed it when I looked carefully at the backroom page. I feel honored!

Wow. I don't know how I didnt see this before. Its really pretty. o_o I've been meaning to watch Haibane Renmei for a while, but i can't find it anywhere and I don't like downloading torrents. I'll find it somewhere though, hopefully. D:
I knew when I was scrolling past the fan art section, without this being featured, there would be no justice in the art world.
In my opinion, this is this best art that's been featured, and one of the best art on TheOtaku. I applaud you for the amount of effort and detail you put into this. The colors, lighting, the quality of everything - and the starry sky is perfect for this.
May I ask, what medium did you use for the background?
Besides that, I congratulate you on being featured. /smiles
Wow~~~ One of the best Haibane fanarts I've seen in forever!! It's one of my favorite anime~ Gawd, this is gorgeous. You drew Rakka so well. :3 I love the sky...just...wow again. Nice job.
This is so beautiful-one of my favorite works of art here! *Hugs and favorites* Congratulations on being today's featured fandom! *Subscribes* I just love your style, I can see how much effort you put into this!
I know I had to be careful when painting that stone. I wanted it to resemble aged stone, so I couldn't just paint it any old way and leave it like that. So, yeah, that was tricky, especially contrasting it with the sky.
It always make this artist happy when another notices details like that. Thank you!
Thank you! I should also note that I really didn't want to put a wall behind her, even though that's an important concept in the series (i.e. being bound and restrained). But I was more interested in giving the piece an open, free look, which I found to be an even more important concept in Haibane Renmei. And again, Happy Birthday!
That's okay, I always forget something whenever I post my art...XD (Usually it is the member dedication...'orz)
Oh, wow...O.O That's a ton of different mediums. That's amazing and awesome and you had so many great ideas of how to use them. It just looks even more amazing!! O.O
I completely forgot to write the mediums I use. I don't know why it slipped my mind, but it did (probably because I was concerned with the dedication, above all else.) In any case, I used mostly acrylic paints, with some watercolors. The first layers where watercolors, for shading. The rest of the layers were thinned-out acrylics, put on on multiple layers. The only CG I did was to adjust the color balance slightly to match the actual picture. Other than that, it's all acrylics, watercolors, and Indian Ink for my pens.
I knew that this was going to be a dedication, so I couldn't just slap something together and submit it as finished (which, I felt I did with the last few pictures. They feel incomplete, for some reason). It reminded me of how much I like doing pictures entirely in paint.
