Thanks! For a while I wanted to add other stuff to my art, especially something more mechanical (but it didn't have to be mecha). Doing this gave me the chance to practice on painting metal surfaces, with lots of shiny reflections. I had fun with this one, no doubt!
Holy shit dude! This is Epic. You surely(heheh, get it?) are getting better everytime I see a new art work from you. Elevating the style and technique. Keep it up Pleiades! Looking forward to more.
My lucky day an artwork!
I liked the detail you gave to the plane,it's actually a very focused effort in it.I really need to see the erie giving that I really don't undestand much of it .The magic in the airplane is interesting.
Great work at all the details,it's a picture to enjoy.
One more thing: notice that on the draft I didn't draw her eyebrows. In the pencil sketch (which I didn't add to the drafts) I made her eyebrows more serious looking, but it didn't suit the picture for some reason. So I left them out until I started inking this, and then I knew how to make her draw her eyebrows. It looked more whimsical and lighthearted, and that's what I wanted!
Half-airplane bunny girl. Ludicrous, I know, but definitely fun!
For a while there I had to stop myself before I ended up explaining everything, making the scroll-time longer for the description than the picture itself, haha. But considering all that I put into this, I had no choice.
Aside from repeating other comments telling you how awesome this is (This is awesome!), I wanted to say thank you for posting a detailed description!! I am now more familiar with your technique, AND now I understand why there's a half-airplane anime girl in front of Charles Yeager!
Great work!
Oh yeah, I don't mean to completely insult said fanboys (since elements of it dwells deep within me too, haha) but I wanted it to appeal to people who aren't into that whole panty-shot thing. Plus, I saw a nice Strike Witches fan art on this site a couple of days ago, and it avoided that look too.
I'll admit that trying to get all of those element to work together sure wasn't easy! But considering I'm talking to a fellow artist, I'm sure you know the feeling too. I really didn't want that background to get lost as being exactly that - being just a space-filling background. However, I also didn't want it to clash with the main picture, so...yeah, I had "fun" making this whole thing. And thanks for the comment!
That whole pantsu stuff was something I really wanted to avoid when I came up with the first and final sketches. It's not too hard to find other Strike Witches artworks that gravitates towards that stuff, but I wanted to do something different. Still, I wanted it to be recognizable as being from that anime, without falling into the usual trappings. So I thought this pose was strong enough, and it wasn't something that only basement dwelling fanboys would love, haha.
I guess it's that wry smile. Either that, or every other hardcore WWII aviation enthusiast also thinks "cute" when thinking of Yeager, haha.
When I first did that draft, all those lines got covered in layers upon layers of paint, so I always have to re-do them when I'm finished all the painting. Then, I can make the lines however I want. With this one, I decided to make them slightly thicker to enhance the curves, since it matches the character (you'd have to see Strike Witches to completely see what I mean, though. Heck, just Google her and you'll see, haha).
DUDE! YOU AMAZE ME! I love this! Even though I haven't seen that anime (panty shots...<_<), this would (maybe) get me to watch it! xD
I love the fact that you used more traditional materials than your computer, and the parts that were done with the computer were done subtly and gracefully. This pic looks great - I also like the "old, vintage" appeal it has. GREAT JOB! MORE PLEASE!! :D
