I saw (probably shortly after you posted this. but I didn't say anything yet) this and I flipped out like... like... like I was five years old again! Kinda hopped for joy in my chair when I saw my childhood, anime heroes again.
I like the poses. I'm all about dynamic things, and this is pretty dynamic. XD
Do you blotch up color when you're water-coloring? Just curious, I do that. I find it a neat way to control where my colors go. (mostly cause, I apparently don't use masks and tapes when I probably should in some cases)
Omg i love your work and i know for sure that you are gonna beat me. I totally agree that Piccolo and Gohan are the perfect pair for Master and Student!!
I know - I have the same recollections! I, too, first really started hanging around theO when DBZ was dominating the American anime audience's attention.
Now this takes me back! It reminds me of both when I first really started getting serious about this whole anime thing, and when I first joined theO and how the DragonBall cannon dominated the fan art.
As for master and student, you couldn't have picked a better duo, I think. They really exemplify some of the key elements of DBZ: sacrifice, determination, and friendship. The art itself looks like it was straight from Akira Toriyama's mind and hand! The watercolors look really good when doing Toriyama's works, I think.
Thanks, I'm really glad you like it! I wanted to keep the colors pretty simple for this work - in keeping with the overall visual style of DBZ, but to make sure it had some depth and generated some visual interest - so I'm glad that came across. Watercolors are so much fun to work with - there really is a lot of versatility with them, there isn't one "correct" way to do it, and you can get so many different effects.
Whoa! Some awesome fanart for the DBZ gallery? Amazing. *_*
Dragonball Z, no matter how overlong and over the top it can be, I'll always have a lot of love for the series.
As for the artwork - I really like how you color; the colors of solid, but not flat and has a lot of depth to it. You did a great job depiticing a sparring session - nice work! :)
Haha, yeah, I guess this is where I start to show my age a little... I barely watched any of the Naruto, as it was coming to the States when I was just a bit older, and really busy with other things going on in my life, and my attention has waned for anime, etc. DBZ hit me at peak interest time! So it has a special place in my heart. Older anime, sigh, haha!
I definitely see this winning or the top 3. Is this all traditional media?
It's nice to see a classic anime, if you will, get some attention. It's been a while since I've seen some really good DBZ fan art here, so this is refreshing to see! And too often people don't remember this student-master relationship. They always think of Naruto and Jiraya (sp?) among other more popular ones.
