I agree whole-heartedly, I love documenting this sort of thing as well as reading about other artists' processes. I will definitely be doing more of this in the future.
Okay, I commented on the finished picture before making my way over to this one. But I can now see how some of what I had postulated were accurate, e.g. the color palette of DBZ and how Toriyama colors his own works. Like I mentioned in the other work, watercolors look excellent for DBZ works.
I like looking at these kinds of things, at how an artist works step by step in creating a piece. I usually do something similar, and it helps me as an artist to watch and learn what another artist is doing in the artistic process!
Ah I see! Thats so neat! I used to do a little water-colour painting, but I never got to the point of being familiar with them... I had no idea they could be so flexible! Of course, you're a great artist so you just know how to make the paint work for yourself! But now at least now I know that watercolour paints aren't as stiff as I thought^^ Thats cool how you mix and use colours as well. Yes, those bright mixtures and textures turn out quite nicely on your finished work! Keep it up, my friend!
Calm, perhaps. Organized? Not always! Patient? To a degree, but let me let you in on a little secret... I actually gravitate towards watercolors because I'm kind of impatient - especially when it comes to color! I work with them on the dry side, so I'm not sitting around waiting for them to dry. And if I happen to make patches of color that are wrong, or too dark... just immediately go back at it with some more water and a different color, and look! You've got something else, and it adds to the aesthetic of the piece. I do a lot of mixing colors right on the page - that's mostly why I end up with bright, simple colors. Haha, if it works, it works!
My digital "skills" are quite minimal, truth be told! All the things I've done are quite simple. There's a wealth of information, instructional videos and such, on youtube. That's really helped me out. Then there are also some random things on Deviant Art that detail specific techniques. Just snooping around online can really contribute to building a digital skillset.
WOAH! YOU ARE A GENIUS!! Thankyou for the dedication and for explaining everything :D I really loved reading your process of creating such masterpieces! I found it super interesting that you do a rough inking, with a .01 marker! I have a .005 marker and its quite tiny, but I usually go right from pencil to a .03/.05 marker. I think that ends up being my most fun point too, but I get quite nervous about it sometimes. My steps are all messed up lol! you seem so organized and calm, and it shows in your artwork :D
And I love how you do the thicker lines to create character and depth! I notice that too, when I do my artwork... the line weight makes it a whole lot more dynamic! Its neat how it comes so naturally to you... I still have to learn that patience =_=
AND WATERCOLOUR? are you kidding? Its simply amazing! I would have never guessed water-colour paints since its so clean and the colours are well done :) I love it, and all your other artworks! Snow fox, you are so talented^^ Thanks again for explaining everything on how you did this picture. Well done! A++++ :D
