Ah don't worry at all! I actually am rushing to get off my laptop as my sister needs it for a project again Dx Its mid-semester so she's got all these tests... T^T
I really hope you get your computer fixed soon! I'll definitely talk to you later on! ^_^
I still haven't seen your finished peice but I'll try to leave you a comment! lol it's funny, you finally get your laptop, while mine crashed, so I might now be able to talk later! I'm sorry about that!
that is good that you are trying something new! lol I got lazy in the past and did make some digital backgrounds while the drawing itself was traditional! XD
Thankyou! You've inspired me to try backgrounds more often... And maybe, if I don't feel like using my markers, I can add a digital background or something^^ And the angel drawing's background is finished and it turned out awesome! usually I don't overly praise my own artwork, but I'm so happy that I didn't mess up! I can't wait to post it :D
So neat! Yeah I'd love to see her art! thanks :D
Thankyou^^ I love reading your comments. I never got onto my laptop again yesterday night, but at least now I have it today in the afternoon... I might talk to you later as well :)
It's good to release! XD I was surprised to hear you did that though! I think you're stuff will look really nice with back grounds!
Yes there's a professional Artist who like doing that. She actullay made that her trade mark and I think the effect looks nice! I'll look up her name so you can see her some of her work!
I'm about to give up my laptop to my sister too, so I'll have to comment later on! I'll make a note to myself!
Haha! Yeah, I don't know what got into me xD And while I was doing it, I thought I messed up so I just kept working and I think I fixed it up a bit xD
Oh cool!! Thats neat about the professional artist doing the same x3 Now I wish I had more ink colours then just black and grey cuz then I could have done a brighter more colourful artwork. But it looks alright... the background is supposed to be a night sky^^ And thank YOU for inspiring me to try different things :D
And I can't wait to read your comments :D
Ack I thought I might be able to stay online for a bit longer and my sister just came to use it >_< See ya, Toya-chan!
Wow Manga!!! You're really cutting loose now! that's really good!!! XD A background?!!! that sounds so awesome! I'll be looking forward to it!!! It's funny, there is a professional artist that also drops ink straight from the bottle to her art, which creates this really cool effect! lol that's what you are reminding me of right now!
I'll be sure to go and comment on the one with out backgrond and then the finished one!!! XD
I know!!! I was so excited when I saw it in first place! Its my first time having an artwork so high, and its thanks to everyone who viewed and faved it and left me such nice comments^^
Thank YOU especially for your nice words. I'm super happy you like my Copic work^^ Recently I've started to stop worrying about using too much ink and now I'm trying to add more backgrounds and such xD I'm very glad you are enjoying my art! <3
Happy Chinese New Year to you as well, my friend!
NO its not strange at all! Thankyou for sharing all that with me :D I understand as I find that some poses I draw come straight from my mind too, and after I'm finished I think "now where did I get that pose in the first place?"... But the mirror is an ingenious idea! I'll definitely use it. I've got a few big mirrors round the house^^ I'll need to start teaching myself little by little to get more in tuned with proportion and poses! :D
Thanks again for more of your advice! I always appreciate it :D
I agree! And guess what? I took your advice and I'm creating my biggest Copic artwork right now... It fills the whole page (but most of the colour is black for the night sky) x3 I felt bad about using all the ink at first, and then I was like 'ah whatever' and I actually dripped ink from my ink bottles straight onto my artwork xD I'm still working on it though. I kept thinking I was messing up! I'm going to post the picture without the background today and then the finished picture later on^^
Catch you later! Actually, my siblings will be taking over the laptop later >_< so I might not be able to get back online Dx

Number one on the featured list my friend! =) This definitely an AMAZING piece of artwork worthy of the spot ^^ I just LOVE your work with Copics...the detail work is great especially on his gloves and for the grass/stump! You REALLY did a wonderful job! >.< I wish I could shade shoes like that @__@ I just love all of the little elements in this picture that make it stand out. Lovely work my friend!<33 And Happy Chinese New Year! ^^
Great style!
Remember me of the manga and you did a fantastic job at the coloring and the pose of the characters. This is really something nice, keep up the great work.
I'm really happy it did!! And i'm glad you're enjoying your Ocarina of Time 3D!! I love that game, but to be honest I'm still loyal to my N64 version. But I've been playing Skyward Sword lately, which is also amazing :D
Yes! Reference pictures are quite useful - but a mirror is even better. A large mirror is an indispensable resource. When I'm drawing characters, it really helps me create the drawings if I act out the poses myself, in front of a mirror. At this point, I've become quite comfortable with proportions, and generally don't use a mirror, except for difficult angles, or ... whenever feet are involved. Just imagining myself taking the pose I want to draw is enough. My sense of proportion and space are so intrinsically tied to my own body... I hope that doesn't sound like strange advice! But really, it's part of my process.
lol I use to be the same with my cryolas, worrying about it drying up, so I limited myself. You can really do more when you don't worry, but I understand that you don't want to waste ink.
talk to you later then!
Hehe thankyou, Toya! I'll take your advice and stop worrying more often! It lets me do a lot more things when I'm not thinking of the ink! This is the one where I added more colours in the background^^
Good night for now, my friend! I've got to go >_< but I'll catch you tomorrow or during next week! :)
Yeah, I noticed about the rule since somtimes I'm not on my laptop when the comments come in >_< So when i reply, I'm stopped when I hit 5 replies in a row! SO ANNOYING!! >_<
Thankyou for your insightful comment, Snowy! Before reading the end, I was actually thinking of telling you that you're definitely helping me train my eye to find those mistakes on proportions! I did notice about the arms and boot on adult Link. (it actually looks better on the paper xP as I noticed it after I took the photo!) Its the right boot I believe? And the right arm of Link is worse too >_< I made the arm too short and the leg too long... ACK! I think that was partially because my pencil guidelines were much weaker on that side. I'm not making excuses though! I should have done it better.
Next time, I'll try holding it in front of a mirror then! I've heard of holding it up to a light as well, but a mirror would be totally more convenient! Thankyou for your wonderful compliments and advice! I appreciate it so much!! I'm glad you like the colouring and the way the characters 'inhabit the space'! You make me feel really happy about that! Next time, I'll try to zero in on proportion mistakes. So far, I've been teaching myself proportion by reference pics so your tips and advice are really valuable to me :D
Thankyou! I usually don't even do a small background like this so it was fun but also different. I just slowly blended out the blue by using light then dark blue colours. The dark colours are closer to Link's body and the lighter blue extends out till it blends into the paper. I use this colourless blender marker to smooth it all out^^
Thanks again for your kind comment! I haven't been on theO since this after noon so I'm trying to catch up on all my comments but I hate the rule about 'no 6 consecutive replies' Dx
Thanks so much! It was very fun to do :D I made sure to use my markers a bit more then usual... sometimes I just worry about the ink usage xD I'm glad it worked out well though! :D

Your coloring is really great! The contrast is very nicely done - you've got a good range of light and dark colors / tones. It's very bright - and that bit of blue in the background really brings it together. It would be an entirely different piece without it - and I like that it's focused around the figures - it makes Link glow! Great concept - including young Link and adult Link. Really nice work!
As you mentioned you were interested in critiques, I'll make a couple comments on proportions. For adult Link, I think his arms might be a little short, at least in comparison to the width of his torso, and his head. With the boots, one of them appears a bit larger than the other. Despite these couple of details, though, the figures still have character and weight. A lot of the time, the hardest part is actually getting the figures to look like they're inhabiting the space, as opposed to being flat elements on a page. Proportions can be learned and tweaked, but you've got what really matters - they look like they're inhabiting space!
A trick to help train your eye to see minor flaws in proportions is to hold your drawing up to a mirror. That intervention will help you see distortions.
Amazing job as always, Jen! I love the blue glow-like thing behind Link! How do you do that with markers?!
It's such a peaceful scene. Wish you luck in the challenge! ^^
