I'd agree with you and pick Mercedes for her bow :D But character-wise, I really liked Cornelius for some reason. XD
I really liked Ingway as a frog! Especially since I totally knew it was him ohoho
My favorite character? Hmmmm...game play-wise, I would say my favorite is Mercedes. Her bow was always my favorite Psypher. <3
Character-wise, I think my favorite is probably Gwendolyn. I dunno, I just thought evaluating the psyche of a Valkyrie was really interesting and fun. :3
Although...I also have a soft spot of Ingway and I don't know why. XD
Ha! It's good to know that. :D
Odin Sphere is one of my favourites. Every so often I'll break it out for awhile and get re-addicted. Out of curiosity, who's your favourite character?
I'm actually glad for such a detailed comment! It's really useful to find out exactly what was good/bad and why. I find that most people just say "It was good" or "it sucked", so it's good to have a (sort of) neutral perspective on it.
Most of what you said was what I've heard from other people - that certain points of the game are really good, but it takes a super long time to get there. I think the most time I've spent on an RPG was 60+ hours on Odin Sphere, and that was because it got corrupted and I had to restart.
I wiki'd it not too long ago and all the proper nouns REALLY confused me. I was probably as lost as you were when you played the game. XD
Overall, though, it's only 20 bucks new in most places, so it's not like I'd be spending a ton of money on it.
Thanks so much (again) for your long comment! It was really helpful.
Even though my avatar may change, it still stays LenxLuka. XD;
Ooh, I can't wait to see the list. When you do post it, I'll be a super creepy person and post a bunch of games I think you would enjoy. :3
Now about FFXIII...First off, hold on because this is going to be a long comment...Second, I have played and beaten it, but this is just one person's opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
First, I'll start with the things I thought the game did well. My favorite part was probably the characters and the interactions between characters. I honestly felt like the characters developed and changed as the story went along and it was easy to see friendships forming and how the characters had changed based on their interactions with one another.
Another good thing was (after a point) the battle system was actually pretty fun and strategic. Although you can't control your party members, the AI that controls them is pretty good and because of the paradigm system, you can manage them indirectly pretty well.
Now, on to the stuff I didn't like.
As stated above, the battle system is fun, yes, but it takes literally 20 hours to get to that point. I'm not even exaggerating. In the beginning, you're forced to control and play as specific characters with specific parties, which I think takes a lot of fun/strategy out of the battle system.
Additionally, the game is basically you running in one big, unending line. When I say it's SUPER linear, I mean not only the plot (which we'll discuss in a minute), but also the maps you're running on. I do not exaggerate when I say that a good subtitle for FFXIII would have been The Game of Corridors. When you FINALLY get out of the corridor running (like...what? 30 or 40 hours into the game?) you're dumped into a giant field and given no direction on where to go.
The last thing I had a problem with was the plot. Oh the plot of this game....Honestly, I still have no idea what was going on. The game SUCKS at explaining itself in cut scenes. They give you these little summary things that fill you in on what just happened in a scene you watched, and honestly, those explain the game better than the game explains itself. Another problem is they're just throwing terms at you without taking the time to explain them. At one point you fight these almost Aeon like creatures that just show up from no where and everyone in the game was acting like it was perfectly normal and they knew what they were called and I just sat there having no idea what the heck was going on because they never explained it to me. I always felt that one thing FFX did very well was provide you with a character that had no idea what was going on so unfamiliar terms would be explained to you. There's nothing like that in this game, so you're just on your own.
All in all, yes there was A LOT of things wrong with the game and I feel the plot suffered but the characters were really strong and I enjoyed their interactions and watching them grow. I wasn't a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but I beat the game, so it wasn't so terrible that I gave up on it and I can say that after I got 20 hours in and could change my party, I honestly started enjoying myself.

Sorry, you probably wanted a lot less than that. Feel free to not read all that if you don't want to. XD

Awww thanks!
I love your new avatar, by the way. :D
I have a list going! A lot of the games were added by my brother, though. I'll probably post it at some point.
Have you played FFXIII? I've heard mixed things about it... but that was one of the games I considered.
Yay for long comments!

IT'S SO CUTE!~<3
She looks so precious that I just want to hug her!~
My favorite part definitely has to be the face and the hair. I don't know what it is about the style you used for them, but it just looks so soft and inviting and I really love it! X3
I also happen to also be a fan of Vanillaware games. In my opinion, Grim Grimoire was fun, but the "battles" at time got kind of annoying and repetitive. The storyline and storytelling was awesome though (and the art work was gorgeous of course). :3 You'll have to let me know what you think when you get it! :D
Ooooh, getting a PS3? There any specific games you're looking into getting?
Sorry for all the pointlessness in this comment, and thank you once more for the positively adorable picture! <3

Yeaaaaaah, I don't think I could ever give a completely neutral view of the game. XD
When I bought it, I was pretty much in the same boat as you; I had heard mixed reviews, but it was only $20, so I just went for it and bought it.
I would say for $20, it's worth the price. I spent...about 40 hours? on the game, so it's not anything like so horrible it's unplayable. :)
And I LOVE Odin Sphere!~
Although I think you have me beat for playtime on that one. XD
