That would make sense... I mean, there's understandable and appropriate wariness, but then there's not even bothering to research or not researching enough to make an informed opinion.

Teehee same^^ Yeah its good to not feel alone with stuff like this >u<
Yeah. Interesting point... I personally think that there will be prejudice. I don't know why, but its like the unknown-ness of manga/anime bothers people... I know that I myself was a bit against it to a point at first. And my parents definitely think like that >3< Or at least, it seems more unfamiliar so its judged or something?
Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way (about losing interest in things, that is). I guess people aren't as alone as they think they are ^_^ But above all, manga is just a style of comic; if you drew the same picture in both manga style and, say, pointillism, would people be more prejudiced against one than the other just because of the style chosen? Even if it's the exact same image otherwise? I dunno... I guess it's just a stigma that comes with the style. Meh.
Thanks^^ I hear that you're going on a trip soon? I will be as well so if I don't email back, I'll email after!
At least we're talking here^^
Exactly^^ Same!!! Thats why it really seems to hurt me when my parents say something negative about anime/manga, and I don't even want to show them my drawings anymore cuz they judge them sicne they are in that style =_= Yes so true for me too! I've actually lose interest in stuff cuz of that... I really shouldn't, if I love what I'm doing. But it just doesn't feel good knowing that you parents don't like something that you do. Lol haha we seem to be really alike x3 and we're good kids, unlike Stormy jkjkjk xD
Yeah I understand! I hope your mom will watch Poppy Hill with you! I should look into that one too and be ready to get in line when my library carries it xD
Sounds good!
And you're right!! @_@ LOL I just looked! Its ok though^^
I know what you mean! It's not that we need their approval, it's just that it feels so much better when we actually do have it. Maybe I take my mom's opinion too seriously, but to hear her say something nice about something I'm interested in just makes me so... happy, you know? And to hear her criticize something kind of takes the joy out of liking it sometimes... Citrus tells me not to take it so personally, but she's my mom, and we're close; how can I not value her opinion?
Let's see... currently, I have seven (and most were purchased back when I was still getting an allowance XD), but I've seen more than just those. And it's not that my mom doesn't approve of what I watch... she says it's just not her taste. I understand that, but personally, I'd like her to at least watch a few things with me... you never know; Ghibli's not typical anime style, and she might actually like one of the movies (I'm definitely looking into From Up on Poppy Hill when it comes out; maybe there will be the slightest chance she might watch it? Who knows...)
And I'll let you know when I see it ^_^
EDIT: I just realized we've been going back and forth on here for quite a bit o_o XD

Teehee its alright! It was fun to read and reply to^^ I've been wanting to talk with you as well since I haven't been able to reply to or email yet >3<
Ugh! I'm sorry about that! I think my parents sometimes think that anime is just another cartoon movie, which is alright cuz that way they won't question it or sit down to scrutinize xD But I do hope both our parents can watch some Ghibli with us soon. It would be nice^^ Its just a nice feeling knowing that its accepted too!
So how many Ghibli films do you own? I don't own any, I wish I did! Thank goodness my library carries most of them! Let me know when you see Howl!
I agree! Not that I watched it of course, but I could tell from the clips. I'm not the type of person to watch that either. =_=
Yeesh, I didn't notice how long my comment was until I looked back at it just now o_o
Yeah, I remember my dad said that Nausicaa looked interesting, but ultimately, he was less than thrilled with it ^_^U
I hope you enjoy them ^_^ I've seen Laputa but I never bought that one because it just didn't appeal to me at the time. I might want to give it a rewatch though. And I still need to borrow Howl from the library >_<
Yeah, I want to say that I got to about episode 19 or so in School Rumble. There was potential in that show, but the raunchiness made it unpalatable >_<
And I really hope that you get to see ARIA soon ^_^
Woah!! Big comment xD
Yeah I've been thinking of the Yamadas! I saw the trailer and remember you talking about it. I might check it out.. Its nice that your parents enjoyed it too! OOO those dads and their jokes >3> I actually make jokes too while watching silly movies but I should stop cuz I get so bothered when it happens while I'm watching something I think is awesome X3 My dad saw me get Howls Moving Castle and said it would be a neat one and that made me happy! He didn't watch with us though, maybe this year? And while watching Spirited Away last year, my mom said "what is this? Its like alice and wonderland." That rubbed me the wrong way all round as I'm not a big Alice fan but Spirited away is in another league, although it is magical.
AH I see!! Yeah I found out about that recently... For a while I didn't know some of the Ghibli's were based on books >u< Its cool though!
Thanks! Yeah I saw Whisper of the Heart and I'm looking forward to seeing it again^^ You know, I think my dad would like the Ghibli anime more then I think, he just hasn't been able to sit down to watch annd I don't wanna take the risk of him watching something that he wouldn't approve of >3< even if its just a bit of fantasy. He saw some of Kiki's Delivery service and I was holding my breathe that he wouldn't say anything about her being a witch xD I don't think he noticed after only 5 minutes. but yeah, I know what you mean and thanks again for the recommendations!
The next ones I'll be watching are Laputa and Porco Rosso, Whisper and Cats Return after that^^
Ooo sorry for being so vague, I meant Ghibli animes! Most of them are clean and innocent. I totally agree with other anime though! I saw a few clips of School Rumble and I decided not to watch it, although it was funny sometimes^^' yeah totally... In general anime case, its even. Talking about this makes me wanna clear my schedule and watch ARIA! Still haven't gotten to it yet >u<
Well, if you're looking for slice-of-life, Ghibli's done that, too. My mom and dad actually did watch My Neighbors the Yamadas, since it's more of a bunch of comedy vignettes on life (and I think my mom actually liked it), done in a not-so-Ghibli style (it's more like Sunday newspaper comics than manga). And my dad has also seen Nausicaa and Porco Rosso (and Summer Wars)... and made jokes during those movies (I think that means he's getting bored) I guess it's just not their style.
Yeah, The Borrowers is what Arrietty is based on, kind of like how Howl's Moving Castle is based on a book, too (Ghibli's been on a literary kick as of late, haven't they?)
But anyways, My Neighbors the Yamadas and Whisper of the Heart are both slice-of-life, so if you wanted to watch something like that with your parents, those would probably be better choices (if you're trying to avoid fantasy; the exception is that the main character in Whisper is trying to become an author so we get glimpses into her stories, which contain fantasy and magic... just in case you haven't seen it yet).
Well, cleanliness would really depend on the anime ^_^U I mean, I had been recommended on a board of nice people (and they were well-meaning, I'm sure) that School Rumble was surprisingly clean. And it was, if by clean you mean actual situations... instead, there was one student who was obsessed with one thing about women and there were some other not-so-clean jokes (some fanservice as well). So yeah, while the series was funny and really off-the-wall with punchlines (you couldn't really tell how the scene's joke was going to end XD), there was a lot of risque stuff... so in the end, it wasn't really as clean as they said it was -_-

Ah i understand!! It would be nice to watch it all together^^ I wish my family would do that as well but I'm on the same page as you... I'm thinking my parents would react badly to watching any type of anime. At one point I was kinda scared to all the Ghibli movies anime just in case they didn't want us to watch it but now I'm able to borrow them. My mom saw my drawing of Kiki though and kinda questioned it =_= Ah the Borrowers? I don't think I've heard of it!
Oh yeah! lol I got confused I think Stormy told me about that! And I was thinking that it would of been nice to see it in the theaters with my family too... At least I think I could guarantee a nice movie experience, I really hate those movies that have bad jokes and just are overall not very good. I can't believe anime is looked down upon in my family when its probably some of the most cleanest stuff going compared to some animations put out there today (in my opinion) xD
Actually, we haven't watched it yet ^_^U I kind of wanted to watch it as a family, but given my mom and dad's track record with anime, ehhh... I'll probably just end up watching it with Citrus. Not that that's a problem, but given that my mom was (as far as I can remember, I could be wrong) the first person to tell me about The Borrowers several years ago, I thought maybe she might watch it with us (no, I don't think she's a Borrowers fan; I think it was just something she remembered from growing up, is all).
But it's not that I haven't seen the movie yet; Citrus and I actually went to see it on opening day in February (it was our first Ghibli movie in theaters :D). I just wanted it to be a family movie event. Ah well...
Wah thats funny!! xD And fortunate too!! Did you enjoy it? :D
Ugh yeah! Sometimes its a bother, but usually I'm able to wait too^^ Ooo that is a lot of people! Thats happened with my sis too... She likes to order animations like Cars too and its amazing how high the demand on them is!
My aunt actually lent me and my siblings Cars 2 so I've seen it as well and I know what you mean >u<
Yep; in fact, somehow I bought a copy of it not realizing I was going to (long story short: I thought someone else was going to buy it, but then at the checkout it was like, "So you're buying this, right?" And I'm thinking, o_o Okay, that wasn't "short" XD).
But hey, I know what it's like waiting in line for library movies; I wanted to at least see Cars 2, but not buy it, so when I got on the list, I was like 94th XD I wasn't in any hurry, though, so I didn't mind waiting. And frankly, the movie wasn't anything to write home about (considering Pixar's track record, they've been slipping lately :/)
Thanks again for your nice comment, Sushi!! I'm not fully concentrated while drawing and watching so its sort of a mess :/ So I appreciate hearing that from you^^
Ah I've been wanting to check myself... I am 63rd on 12 copies, and people can have the DVD for 1 week... Quite a while to wait still, but I'm glad I got in line! I think they had 2 copies only and now they ordered 10 more O_O I watched the trailer with my little brother today and we can't wait to see it ^_^ Sorry if I'm wrong, but you've seen it right??
Teehee!! Thanks, Ichi-chan!!! I actually was planning to colour it before I drew it in pencil but then I thought I'd leave it cuz I'm lazy but thanks for the inspiration!! I think I'll come back and colour it sometime!!
Ah yeah! Its fun too! I usually like drawing while watching anything for some reason? I always make myself concentrate on more then 1 thing.. Or at least I draw when a boring part comes on... Though with watching the Ghibli films, I had trouble pulling my eyes away from the screen xD
Thanks my dear friend! Oh oh! I saw Spirited Away 2 years ago, before I got into anime... I'll definitely order that one! And last year, I saw Howl's Moving Castle and LOVED IT!! I'm gonna put that on hold later though as I saw it later last summer as well (ah the nostalgia xD) Thanks so much for the recommendations, ichi! <3
