I beg to differ. Some nose definition (you can see his nostril, not just the outline of his nose!), more accurate facial proportions compared to the head, a slightly realistic face shape, not just the pointy chins of anime styles. You might not have meant to make it less anime and more realistic, but it's definitely not 100% anime!

Canson marker paper is what I usually use other than bristol -- that's pretty good. The marker comes out looking smooth, a bit like watercolor.

Have you tried bristol? I think that's a lot like comic board. There's also a paper made specifically for markers.
