    I think this looks nice, and doesn't look like a child work at all! to be the first time doing a background you did good! just like ametsu said, you must be careful of how the background influence the characters/objects in the front. It's just natural to be be unsure about your art sometimes, that's what it makes us continue try and practice! the most important thing it's never give up and have fun with it!

    It's a good start for your first background on a digital piece. I give you a *thumbs up* for the choice of blurring your background (for a firm focus on the face) and the splash of light on the head (makes the colors more interesting! X3). My only bit of advice is to keep track of where your background lighting is and how it effects your shadows/highlights on the face.

    The light seems to be coming from either the front or the right but the shadows suggest otherwise for either direction. But, hey, if the background + orange light was an after-thought it's an understandable mistake.
