First point. Do not use patterns or textures. They completly take away from the picture and they're meant for lazy people. I don't suggest you colour penciled works unless you intend on inking the picture on the computer through Photoshop or some other program. Ball point pens are cheap. If you're a serious artist then you should pick up some pen nibs and black magic ink. Inking really brings out the image and you'll recieve comments from other experienced artists who know what good line art is. Colouring isn't the only thing, the line art is of major importance to a piece as well. Watch your shading. Around the claws of the dragon should have more shade in between them. The larger scales on the underbelly should be dark. Your colour for example on the tail goes from a dark blue to a bright tan. I know the colour tan is light but it should be a dark tan like there is a dark blue. Watch your anatomy on your person. With the dragon standing behind her her arm should look like it's going back at an angle and not straight up and down. It makes the image look flat by keeping it this way. Either that or the dragon is craning it's neck forward in almost an S shape to reach her hand. Dragon's do have torsos. And a torso holds organs, so make sure your dragon's belly looks like it would be able to hold organs. The spikes on the tail are all mismatched and look really frail. The shading on them is completly wrong. Those wings don't have any bones in them! O.O Neither one of the characters shouldn't even dream of flying with them. As a matter of fact they shouldn't even be standing up like that. The dragon's wing has a forearm but no fingers so the membrane wouldn't have naything to keep it spread out like you have it displayed. Always remember to draw in the skinny bones that should go where you have the pencil lines. The girl's wings don't have any bones in them at all. You can see directly through them. Last time I checked bones were solid and not transparent. When drawing your pencil sketch trying doing quick lines rather than solid straight lines because then you recieve the wavy lines like the outer line in the girl's wings. All in all, it's not a bad pic for a beginner. I don't know what program you used to colour it (I'm thinking Photoshop as that pattern you used on the dragon's body comes with the program.) but keep working with it. http://www.neondragonart.com/dp She has some fantastic art tutorials concerning dragons, people and using photoshop to colour.
