Well, even though your were trying for realism the image itself is still great! I like how you did the face and the shading is real nice!! I think it looks anime-ish is because the eyes are quite large and there's not much detail in the face...like putting shadows along the cheeks, around the nose, eyes, mouth, etc^_^
