It's purely coincidence that they look like real characters, I made this picture up during history class, so I had nothing to base them off.

are you sure its not coincidence that the characters on the flag look like real characters? cuz the top one looks like "xia" (down)in Chinese and the second looks like "ku" in Hiragana (without the dot in the center)
