This is Eponine from Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. She is my favorite character in it…I recently started reading the book for the first time, but I have listened to the musical (alas, I have never seen it ;_;) and seen several movies based off of it (but a lot of them stupidly DON’T INCLUDE HER). I will not give the story away to those of you who don’t know it, but let me just say: Eponine is one of the most amazing characters that you will ever find…she is definitely one of my heroes… she did so much for Marius, never expecting anything in return, only hoping that he might return her feelings…
In the musical, she sings a song called “On My Own.” Part of it goes like this:
On my own,
Pretending he’s beside me.
All alone, I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me.

Yes, hers is a tale of unrequited love…this song, in my opinion, is practically the theme song for any girl who has an unrequited love. I recommend listening to it…it truly is an incredible song!
