"Celestial Cupid, her famed son, advanced,
Holds his dear Psyche sweet entranced,
After her wandering labours long,
Till free consent the gods among
Make her his eternal bride;
And from her fair unspotted side
Two blissful twins are to be born,
Youth and Joy; so Jove hath sworn."
~John Milton
Psyche The wife of Cupid (Eros)
The legend of Cupid and Psyche is my favorite! ^_^
In Greek Mythology Psyche was the deification of the human soul. Psyche also meant 'breath' She was portrayed in ancient mosaics as a goddess with butterfly wings (because psyche is also the Greek word for 'butterfly'). The Greek word psyche literally means "spirit, breath, life or animating force".
In a nutshell Psyche was the youngest daughter of the king of Sicily. She was so beautiful that people would compare her to the goddess Aphrodite. Aphrodite became jealous and sent her son Eros to use his arrows to make Psyche fall madly in love with a horrible monster (or something I can't remember what exactly) Eros went to follow his mother's orders but fell in love with Psyche and couldn't bring himself to do it. And he took Psyche as his bride.
Theres more to the story but I'm not telling you.
But this could make a great comic :)
