This is for Sunhollow's June Star challenge. I think it's great that one of the challenge requirements is to dedicate to a new member, because it's reminded me that I should try to be welcoming and helpful toward newer members, as people were welcoming and helpful to me when I was new here. So this is for honeyblue!
The girl in my drawing's name is Mia. She's 17 years old, almost 18. Her hair isn't naturally blue--she dyes it. Blue and green are her favorite colors, so she always wears her blue-dyed hair and her green jacket over plain t-shirts and jeans. Her eyes are green. She's in a bit of a dilemma. She will soon graduate from high school. Her mother wants her to join the Mecha Army as soon as she is out of school. Her father wants her to make use of her highly intellectual brain to go on to college. From there, he wants her to contribute to the Mecha Army in some kind of way that requires intelligence--as an engineer, a scientific researcher, a weapon designer. She respects her father and wants to make him proud, plus she loves using her brain to help people out. But she's afraid of her easily angered, violent, often unstable mother (she doesn't like fighting and she hates it when her mother and father fight). But really, she doesn't want to haqve any part in the war. She's not a violent girl. A pacifist at heart, she understands the necessity of fighting the unknown threat closing in on the country, but feels that she could never forgive herself if she had any part in killing or violence. Not only that, but her real love lies in music. Secretly, people have already made offers to her--both from the army and from people who could jump-start a career in music for her. Her friends are all joining the army except for her best friend, who will be going on to a university of science and urges Mia to join him there. All the people her own age feel it is a patriotic duty to their country to fight, kill, until all threats against the country have been destroyed. But Mia's respect for life and longing for peace make her feel like she should be using her abilities in a different way.
If this isn't as good as some of my other work, it's because lately I haven't based as much of my work off other pictures. I need to become a more independent artist.
