Brief bio: At age six, Keba was orphaned by a dark demon who seeks a treasure known as the Light Pearl. Keba has been on the run ever since. She travels by day and hides at night when the dark demon comes out. She lives mostly in solitude and loneliness. This changes when she meets Jon, who is human (Keba at first thought humans were a myth). Although Jon offers her help and becomes her traveling companion, she chooses to carry her burdens on her own. Eventually, she will have to face the dark demon that is pursuing her, although she is very afraid of having to do so.

Now the artist's comments!

First of all, sorry for the lame bio. I swear the relationship between Keba and Jon isn't as Mary Sue as it sounds. There is some conflict between them at times. I really should post the story-- or what I have so far-- but like Keba (the character, not me) I'm afraid of facing my fears.

Anyway, this picture is for the OC Challenge (I might enter a second drawing, too). Surprisingly, it only took me a few days to make. I'm even posting it the day I finished.

I used a reference picture from the book "Manga for the Beginner" for the pose. It's one of my first action-y poses that looks good. I am very pleased with how the character came out. I even tried some new things with skin tones and shading. I like how that turned out, too.

My weakest point is the background. That's supposed to be a sunset. I guess I'll put following sentence in spoiler tags if you don't want the picture ruined for you. I added the background last, and I didn't notice that the setting sun wasn't matching up with the shading until I was half-finished.

Since you read to the end, here's a bit of trivia! Keba was originally an "Inuyasha" fan character. At that point, her sole purpose was to annoy Inuyasha to no end. She then graduated to becoming an original character when I cast her as the main character of a high school story where all the students were demons, spirits, and the like. That story crashed pretty quickly. It wasn't until 2003 when I came up with the idea of "Destination" and I didn't actually write it until 2007. After six chapters, I stopped writing due to a rough point in my life, but I want to go back and finish it someday.
