For Ellenor Mererid's Challenge
So, I thought about the criteria and this idea WOULDN'T GO AWAY! DX

I wrote out several different ideas, but none were as effective and as prominent as this particular alternate event.
This was actually completed a good while ago for the challenge, I've just been waiting for a good time to post it.

Here's the stuff:

"When granted the option to accept an item of power, in this universe, he [ my character, Krolin ] denied this significant magic artifact.

As a result, he didn't become "altered" by its magic. Thus, the young prince was able to remain by his lover's side and actually welcome his offspring to the world."

Wow. I guess this is appropriate for Father's Day too. Hahaha!
