My first artwork for awhile. I decided to do a character portrait of one of my all time favorite characters, Judai Yuki from Yu-Gi-Oh GX.
He's a character that is near and dear to my heart for many reasons. I see a lot of myself in him. Season 4 Judai is a lot like me in terms of personality, things he's gone through, how he's had to overcome his problems, for that reason he is a big inspiration to me.
I first started drawing this over the weekend with regular pencil. This by itself was challenging because it took me awhile just to get it how I liked it. Phase 2 was inking in my lineart, I went over it several times to make the lineart more bold and to make it stand out more. This was challenging as well as in trying to make sure I didn't mess it up. I wanted this to look as crisp and as good as I could make it because I cared about it that much. Does that make sense? I just wanted it to look just right. I think I succeeded. If anything I learned how to make my future line arts stand out more.
The final phase was color. This by itself was hard because I wanted to come as close to Judai's original anime coloring as my colored pencils would allow me. For his eyes I decided to color the edge of them brown and then colored them with his Yubel eye coloration; the left eye being green and the right eye being kind of red/orangeish. I did this to try to show all of the aspects of his character and how I saw him. I did my best to shade in all of his details; his hair, eyes, clothes, etc. This was all very challenging. Overall I think it was worth it to me because I'm honestly proud of how this came out. It was fun to draw, ink in, and color Judai after such a long time of not drawing him.
That being said, I hope everybody enjoys my art and feedback would be appreciated. Should I do more character portraits like this in the near future? I have a few more in mind to try to break my art block.
