Ah, those! Those are coconuts as they come off the trees; they have this thick green husk that protects the hard brown seed inside (which is the coconut everyone knows). Removing a coconut husk is difficult, but there are some people that can do it pretty quickly and skillfully (and for some odd reason, you can often find these people at Polynesian cultural centers and luaus o_o) They might have videos on YouTube.
Ah, so I wasn't just imagining them looking like bowling balls!
I sorta actually googled pictures of coconuts, and a few of them looked sorta lemon shaped with no holes?
Maybe it was just another type of coconut, or maybe it was just the way the picture was taken.

1. Seems kind of like one of those "Tonight, on (title goes here)!" reels.
2. Coconuts do have those three "bowling ball hole" marks on them, so no worries :) I believe even Tom & Jerry had a joke with bowling balls and coconuts... at least, I think they did. If they didn't, I must be losing it; but I think I've heard of that as a joke at least somewhere.
3. The coconuts thing reminds me of those old word problems in math. There was, in fact, this one picture of Sally from Peanuts that someone changed the word bubble for; it said something like "Only in math problems can you buy 62 melons and nobody wonders what the h*** is wrong with you." XD This was the main thing I wanted to say in this comment, but other things came up that I wanted to comment on.

@Wakusei Aoshi:
Yep, and what makes is better is that this was the intro to the story.
Very promising, huh?
