Yeah the protective qualities are limited, but there are a few:
Hypothermia.(but not frostbite)
Shallow cuts. It'll still hurt and bleed but the internal organs might be safe.
Starving. I'd be miserable but I'd last longer.
Can't think of any more good things.
I know there are alot of health problems that are caused or made worse from being overweight. I'm trying to not get bent out of shape over it though.
When I was a kid the only people I gave hugs to were my parents and grandparents! Now that I've become slightly more comfortable with society I give and get more hugs. Since mom got remarried, Jess's family was more into hugs(at least for family) so we kinda adopted a hugs before parting policy :P
@TrueStory. An extra layer of fat won't save you from back-crunching hugs! I'm about 230 and usually it'll make my chest hurt, however those kind of hugs were given with the intent to pop my back.
Fat is surprisingly sensitive.
I don't like tight ones unless it's from close family, and the only one who is allowed to give me super tight ones is my boyfriend!
I don't like hugging IRL either, for different reasons though. I don't like people touching me. makes me feel very uncomfortable. IRL hugs are for family and very important friends when they NEED it. Like when they are super sad.

Well then! *hugs* Nah, it's not really odd; some people are huggers and some aren't.
For me, I'm perfectly fine hugging family members, especially immediate family (with my brother, though, we only really hug around the holidays/birthdays because of gift-giving XD We mostly just shake hands XD). I've been trying to get myself to hug friends when I can, but there's still a part of me that finds it odd... then again, I'm the kind of person who needs some physical space; I can't sit too close to people outside my family or I start getting a little nervous ._. There are a few exceptions, but that's the general rule for me.
I'm not much of a hugger too. People just hug me cuz I can't say no... :/
But when I hug back, I would give a real hug not just the fake kind many people (esp. girls) do where they just lightly hold onto each other and barely touch. I mean what's the point? Just do a handshake, or don't bother.
I do have to relate to this comic though. One time I had a knot on my back and then a friend hugged me so tight she unknotted it for me. That was a such a relief ^^
Nice comic btw :D I enjoyed it ^^
*hugs :D

Yeah, I sometimes hug people on purpose, but when I do, I just sorta stand there, or give them a pat on the back, but it feels kinda awkward and I just wait until they let go.
Well, it's not really the act of hugging that I dislike,
it's just people tend to forget that I don't have a lot of meat on me, I mean, I'm not bragging, but I only weigh 95 pounds, so there isn't much protecting me. Honestly, I wish I could gain some weight, but my metabolism is high, so even if I pig out, I never gain weight.
I bet when I'm older that will stop though.

Interesting, I never knew that no matter how much you weigh it won't protect you.

My thing with hugs is I never know how long to hold on. It's like an awkward church handshake except full body lol
But yeah, understand that too. After some hugs you're like 'you just took my breath away and not for the reason you think' lol
*gives you a gentle online hug* ;)

Aww, really? One of my friends doesn't like hugs either...;3;
For me, I looove hugs! I'm a hug addict. I hug everyone and anything and with supah force. I would probably kill you.
A lot of people don't want to hug me, though, because they think they will actually kill me or snap my bones...O.o;
