Step 11:

Choose a lighter shade of the base color to use for the highlights. Lay it down in a curve where the light hits most. You may want to change the highlight layer's opacity and layer mode. (I changed the layer blending mode to "Luminosity" for Kaori's highlights.) Make sure the highlight layer is on top of both the hair's base layer and the hair's shadow layer.
