Edit (05/27/14): I changed Riko's name to Rei Akino to avoid this pointless name change early in the story. Akino is derived from Akinosuke. This is a reference to the Japanese folktale The Dream of Akinosuke. Rei's story doesn't really follow the folktale at all, but it was a good match to the idea of living a whole new life in another world. Her old name was Riko Kojima, which really didn't mean anything. I didn't think about changing it until now because that's how it's always been, and it just feels weird making changes.
