before i read this (or found it or that matter) i asked my parents if i could go to one and they said no becuse the location of the closest anime con is A-Kon in dallas (nless there is one in fort worth :/ is there?) and they dont like going to dallas so i nderstand. i asked one of my friends and they were going to have older sister take the two of us (she is like... 18 and a half now i think)so after that i asked my parents a second time but telling them that my friend's sister offered to but they still said no...(it took ne forever just to build up the courage to ask once and asking a second time nearly killed me O.o) my dad said he didnt like the fact the people wore those skimpy costumes at them. he also said "you know those comic and sci-fi conventions? you would think those would be for kids but their not" (im not a kid im 13 3/4) anyway then i read your article but i cant bring up the courage to ask them again even after looking into all this.... im afraid if i ask again they might get upset or something. though i know they won't there is something inside me keeping from asking them.... please help T^T (by the way sorry for rambling i have a tendency of doing that ehheh *sweatdrop*)
Unfortunately that's always true in travel. Though they can go back down as well. Make sure to check and see if the hotel has a convention rate, that will usually be advertised on the convention website. If they don't mention one, try contacting the convention to ask about one. Most hotels and conventions have one worked out, at least in America. Not sure how British cons work.
Yeah, as hard as it is to wait, you'll probably have a lot more fun if you go fully prepared and with enough money to spend.
... I had friend who decided that they had to Anime Expo. They didn't plan a head enough. They slept in a train station for two days and had to borrow money from family/friends to get home.
Are you actually in the London area then? Gwads I miss England, its been nearly 8 years since I was last year. (easy to remember the date, landed on 9-11-01)
Planning a year out is a great idea. That way you can also take advantage of better pre-reg prices and make sure to get a con discounted hotel if you have to travel.
Well, doing extra chores isn't necessarily sucking up, its reminding your parents you do things around the house (even if you do things regularly, a little extra reminder, by emptying the dishes right before you ask, can help them remember better)
Yeah, puppy dogs eyes can work in the short time, but most of the time in the long run it makes you look more childish. Of course, its also all about the situation.
wow that is so very true, i like the idea of not pouting. That could really help, it can seem childish even though i still go for the puppy eyes. I do suck up when wanting to go ill clean the house wash the car scrub the toilet with my own tooth brush, just to go to an anime convention. lol that yaoi thing is funny i was at this anime thing and there was sauske and naruto holding hands walking around, least to say it scared my parent. i love what you wrote or should i say typed it makes complete since and shows parents that conventions arnt bad im gonna have to get my mom to read this if i can. ^sighs^ id give this thing 2 thumbs up awsome job
This is right up my alley at the moment, since I have about a month and a half to persuade my parents to let me attend my first anime convention. Now, I'm 16 years old, so ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, but my parents are very VERY protective and still keep me on a very short leash. I've already thought a lot on how to go about trying to ask them again, and this article really helped on reminding me of a few points, as well as give me ideas on how to do it. Thanks for the article, it's both hugged and faved by me!
The past couple of years I've been trying to get my parents to come to Otakon with me. Of course, I'd be the one paying for their registration, but I always feared about what they would witness there. The yaoi/yuri thing as well. I would not know how to explain it to them and why that stuff exists in the anime fandom.
They can barely support my crazy ways let alone a whole convention full of weirdos. However, it would be kind of funny to see them there and the reactions they would get xD
