I am sincerely surprised by the amount of all the details and hints hidden in this anime! Especially RobinxAmon part, eek :D Anyway, I think it is really fascinating for a n-time watcher or someone who looks up for those explanations, but for a regular watcher this can also become a big downpoint. Just after I finished watching the series, I felt a slight disappointment since you just feel that so much is missing and all those hints are too small to notice the first time :) But I feel that your explanations are more exciting than the main plot line, which I find really generic (if we won't take the year of release into the consideration) and not bought up into its full potential for 26 episodes (which is quite a lot for tv series). You could really see a promising concept behind everything, which really got me into this anime, yet, I believe that some sort of inevitable budget cuts forced the creators to hold everything to the minimum (that's why we had so many static scenes and also this could explain the lack of dialogues in general (which, I'd say, turned out to company's advantages)).In the end, I'd say I still feel confused about my feeling for this anime. Probably the lack of in-depth development of all the characters (and oh... not even a single drop of blood shown...) made everything look a bit too unrealistic and cold.
Wow; thanks for your long and thoughtful comment! I'm so pleased (and surprised) that someone is reading my article four years after originally publishing it!
I agree to your point about the ending. Stories have to end sometime and characters need to live on in our minds, even after we stop reading or watching what happens to them. An open ending allows for that.
Just finished my 6th playthrough of this series (spread out over like 8 years) and i must say you're explanations and the things you've noticed are all things i've been picking out also.
One thing i'd like to say is, in your #5 on this list, i believe that the first time the water in the jug bubbles is his son like you said, and the flashback of it breaking is the owner's son when his powers awaken, BUT the third time, he says to robin something like "he TRULY was my son" they show the owner of Harry's sort of staring off (im assuming at the water jug) then they show the water bubbling. Meaning, he feels that way because they have to same powers^^ and thats why they show the water bubbling, it's the owner doing it. :)
About the open ended questions they leave, this is something that story tellers use all the time. It's to force the reader/viewer to use their own imaginations and come up with their own answers to these questions. It puts a little of the reader/viewer into the story which makes it more real for that person, making it an entirely more enjoyable experience and easier for a wider audience to get excited about the story.
Just noticed your response to djsands below, It's true that he says he was afraid of the power that he may have inside his own blood and to me that was how he felt 2 years ago when his son awakened. At this point in the timeline though, i think he has awakened himself and that's what they're showing

I hadn't thought of that before. And it's true that powers run through families. However, I think the owner of Harry's is a seed, someone who has not developed their powers yet, like Amon. I'm basing this on the fact that he says he was afraid of the power that he may have inside his own blood. To me, that just says that he hasn't come into his powers.
I think number 5 is a little different. I think it was the father not the son that caused the bubbles in the last part because he said " He was defently my son." meaing they had the same powers since powers are tyicaly the same in a family.
wow, I've just started watching WHR for a 4th time but it hasn't been a while since the last time I watched it...that was some crazy stuff I actually went to the episode where its on the comp screen THATS SO CRAZY!!!! but it gives everything away - I wonder if any of the dub actors know its there! Great article!!!!
Well, I wrote an essay on how it inspired me. I didn't decide to publis it though because I didn't think people would care to read about someone's inspiration.
Nice job there! I'll definitely have to look up some of these and re-watch the series. Almost thought it was my little essay thing for a sec when I saw the intro and I was like "I never published it O_o" good thing I kept reading.

Maybe they did construct it backwards you know...
