Wow, that was a really good story!
It's too bad that you didn't get to become a scriptwriter in the end... That would have been REALLY cool for both you and all of us on TheO.
Maybe just wait until the economy shapes up a little. You'll probably have a much better chance of getting a job then ^^
Good luck to you~
Oh, and is Ocean Group all the Viz dubs? I was pretty sure I was watching my Inuyasha movie (back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) and it said that it was recorded by Ocean Group in Vancouver.
Your writing and story-telling skills are amazing. As soon as I read this, I couldn't put it down. Until my teacher came, this page had to disappear, but as soon as she was gone, it popped right back up. I wish you luck in your endeavors (I think I spelled that right), and you know everyone here loves your writing. Good luck with everything.
Ugh, so good man, so good. Perfectly written narrative here; I couldn't stop reading it, lol.
Definitely food for thought. You have said some things here that I believe every otaku-like person should know, at least so that they can mull over it themselves. And for anyone that is looking into the Anime industry themselves, what you have written is nothing short of invaluable knowledge and advice.
Quick thought: If you could somehow extend this or something (maybe other like-minded stories, or just more detail?), it would totally fit into a small novel that would be very interesting. I loved the way you wrote it, and could really see this as a much longer piece.
Working for something that you really really want, especially a job and especially in these times, takes a lot of courage, effort, determination, and hope. You expressed that well in this article. Even if one never makes the dream, it was still there, and it was still strived for.

I can't say enough how much I admire you, especially for having the courage to really go after a dream job like this. I can't think of anyone more deserving, really.
Times are hard, though. I'm sure something will come along for you. You've already established yourself in the exploding field of online writing and blogging.
Since I never inquired and followed though back then, I admit I was somewhat curious about what went on after you mentioned you had to work on the test-run package. It seemed we were levelling up simultaneously in that particular aspect of life.
That must have been hard to write, putting it out in front of everyone that you believe your dreams are just that - dreams. I still wouldn't give up, though. Even if it's just every 6 months, I'd recommend emailing her. You never know when one of those time-tested scriptwriters will decide to call it a day and shuffle off to a career with more money in it, seeing as he'd have plenty of experience and all. You want your name to pop into her mind when she thinks of hiring. You never know.
In the meantime, let's all support the industry however we can. And work at slightly less satisfying places of employment. Like superstores. XD

Heh, I remember you showing me your portfolio at Sakura-Con. It's pretty cool that you could use the Christmas poem as an example of your work.
This was indeed a nice story. Kinda shows a bit of inspirational, fantard-like dreams what with working in the anime industry, but it doesn't have a happy ending. Or a bad one, at that. Life just goes on, and we nerds shall continue to be nerds.

I'd rather see in shades of gray.

Why are you good at telling stories...?
...ones that really hit me at that. That was a nice piece of inspirational "livin' the dream" stuff right there.
Be true, be you and of course, be otaku.
