Hmmm, I think this was an attempt at being ironic. Unfortunately, the writer failed, epically. The real tragedy is that someone read that and thought it was so super awesome, it was worth paying for.

The worst thing is, I've personally met someone like that troll. One of the most interesting things he said in his overly animated rant was that God of War was one of his favorite games. I almost broke down laughing, but since I have a good amount of patients and, dare I say, intelligence, I kept quiet and let him finish.

Back before I was a fan, I thought the internet was heaven. Now that I've set into my hobbies, this thing we call the internet is like a minefield. Most of us learn to weather this trolling, but for some reason, I found my eye twitching.

Based on this columnist's comments about Duke Nukem Forever, I'd say they are the Slash000 person that had the game on reserve for 10 years, until yesterday, when the company that made Duke Nukem games went out of business...They got pissed because they'd been waiting so long, wrote this article, and then Duke Nukem Forever was cancelled...Or something like that...

But actually, it depends on people's opinions or views. I do have friends who DO NOT like anime. Since I do watch anime, I won't call it 'hateful' or 'nonsense' or all that stuff, but again, it's a matter of opinions.

I also won't bore you with a zillion quotes in an attempt to validate the fact that you are warped. Deep down you already know it.
Calling kids "warped" isn't exactly a way to become popular among the readers. Agreed with Nehszriah; I know a lot of kids in my area talk about Naruto on the street, but that's no reason to call them sexual deviants.

I would have understood if the person referred to some cartoons, which can be viewed by parents and children alike and both perceive things differently (look at Freakazoid!, there is some masked adult humor which can also be understood by kids, but on their level - don't misunderstand me, I love the show, but I watched it when I was a kid and now I see many jokes can be interpreted another way).
If she took a look at cartoons these days, she'd find more "porn" than in anime.

Also, concerning video games, I really don't understand why she doesn't play solely non-anime styled games. Nobody is forcing her to play anything and, truth be told, I don't understand the hatred she has for the anime genre. I know there are a lot of people who like things I don't but I don't insult them for it. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and I would respect hers if it weren't so childish.

That article could be ironic, but it seems more like trolling to me. o_O Like someone said, irony is usually pretty witty and quite a bit of that wasn't very funny. Either way, I don't intend to take them seriously.

Video games aren't much different so he columnist doesn't really have the right to talk. Some of the best videogames out there are created in Japan. Besides, this article could be seen as racist since most anime is made in Japan.

This reminds me of a woman named Sagakure who lives in japan and scanlates manga in English. She's young and married and is one of the most dedicated fans out there. And someone went and said that she is "just an old lady drawing and watches anime and manga you should take care of your home and your hasbuand and even your children not wasting your time on something that only children would do" --quote by troll, commas an correct spelling has not be added.

I've seen my share of anti-anime hating in my day, we used to get trolls regularly on the TechTV Anime Unleashed message boards, a couple of us would quietly work to get them kicked off, but I digress.

In this day and age, anyone who clings to what, 20 plus year old xenophobic stereotypes of anime is doing only one thing quite well, broadcasting their ignorance, and that's the civil version.

Okay, so this person doesn't like anime, probably had a bad experience with it, and wrote a misguided and poorly researched article. Thats fine. But going about and calling anyone who reads or watches anime a 'sexual deviant' is just wrong. Who are you to label us? Its not like we're not aware of what we're reading and its not all sex-realted, though I will admit theres some stuff out there.
You know, if you weren't so consumed with badmouthing us and actually took the time to understand what you're writing about, maybe you'd be that much less ignorant of what stupid things you're saying.
Honestly, you're mad and you're frustrated, that I get, but to take that out on anime fans and blame us for rediculous things like global warming and the death of some random actress is completely uncalled for. Get ahold of yourself and grow up already.

Trolls, especially ones insulting things I love, I will never stop disliking. Even if, like Someguy projected, she was trying to be "ironic." The only ironic thing about it is that it was posted on IGN in the first place.

Looking at her article from a rhetorical standpoint, she really didn't accomplish anything, either. Her audience was mostly those who do actually watch anime and love it; was she trying to get them to stop, and "realize the evil of their ways"? There isn't a clear purpose here, except for her to bitch and moan about something she doesn't like. I don't know about you, but generally I only enjoy reading angry rants when the ranting is directed at the thing that made them angry, not the people associated with it. And closeminded, assuming hate is wrong in any situation.

I understand that trolls are out there trolling just for the sake of getting attention and we should just ignore them, but getting paid for it? Something is seriously wrong here.

I have to agree with you. I could care less, this person seems like a close-minded, unintellectual jerkface. God, it's like "Ok, if you don't like it, get an X-box and buy all American games, fix'd." But yeah, it seems ridiculous that IGN would condone something like this, and call it "writing". But whatever. Anime fans and gamers will always overlap, and she's probably already had her ass handed to her in online games by anime fans, so I'm not that concerned. Can't believe she gets paid for this kinda stuff though...

Here's an interesting thing to note.

In her reply to a comment similar to ours here, she said the following words:

"I have a problem with the anime fan-base that enjoys looking at sexually exaggerated pictures of young children."

Also, she made this reply to a comment from someone who likes anime shows but is irritated at the current ecchi content of most anime shows today:

I think it would be a good idea if you do take a look at the original page, because that would be one way to really know what she really meant.

She should just be glad that I am not registered with her publication's website, or else I would have to go all big-sister-bear on her. You start lumping all anime fans into one huge clump and you have to include my baby brother. How can you call an eight-year-old a sexual deviant for enjoying Hayao Miyazaki movies (catered to his demographic to begin with), the five-minute adventures of a kitten and stories about kids around his age and still be able to call yourself a professional journalist? If she met my littlest brother, would she be able to call him, in all of his ultimate cuteness, a pervert and still feel as self-righteous about it?

Shame on her for lumping together innocent fun like Yotsuba&! and whatever tentacle-rape happened to tick her off. There is lewd material in any medium, no matter the country, culture or language... you just have to know where to find it.

I'm extremely irritated. The fact that I had to retype this comment all over again didn't help things.

When she equated anime viewers as perverts, I was pissed. But since she did say that she had been doing this anti-anime crusade for 10 years, it's likely she had suffered a bad experience with anime, which ultimately caused her to had a stereotypical view of anime. Hopefully, she doesn't have any ideas of turning this anti-anime crusade into something similar to the racism chaos in the 1950s-1960s.

Her article is not just an insult to anime fans, but to every single person in this planet who is involved cleanly in the anime and manga industry. From the late, great Osamu Tezuka to the innocent kid in Little Rock who's watching Naruto because of the ninja action and not for the "sexual, pornographic" action, this article did the job of insulting them.

What even pissed me off were the comments in the article. Very little sign of defense against anime. I hope someone would dare e-mail this website to tell our reactions. Because I simply can't stomach the idea of registering myself with a soon-to-be-unused IGN account just so that I can post a comment that has a 50-50 chance of getting ignored by the writer. And I hope you can do that for us, Adam.

I hope she did mean it as a joke or irony of sorts. If it wasn't, then she better take a rest from that job because it's not doing her any good.

Right now, I feel like wanting to equate this to the recent incident with Miss California and a certain controversial gossip blogger. Miss California has her beliefs and that should be respected, but for that blogger to use the B word and the C word was just disrespectful. The writer of that article called members of the worldwide anime community perverts. I guess I should pray for the writer, and probably for myself so that I won't turn into what she describes me to be.

I'm still on the fence on whether this was a troll post or if she was being ironic.

She wrote an article about how guys can finally get into gaming without being discriminated against by the usual female gamers, after all, which makes me lean more towards the latter.
